You'll find it funnier if you go from left to right.

I am not being a console basher or anything. In fact I am looking to purchase a PS3 in a few months, but I did find that funny.
-
That's gold.
But um, why would you purchase a PS3 over a 360 or Wii...or both? Do you really like Folding@home or something?
-
Cause I want to watch movies on Bluray.
edit:
Also despite the shitty controller, I'd rather have the PS3 for the Japanese games that will come out on it and not the PC. The 360 games all seem to find their way on the PC anyway.
Also the PS3 60GB is about $450 here, and it less likely to fail on me than a 360.
-
The only reason I sort of want a PS3 is to replace my dying PS2. That's pretty much it. There's like 1 PS3 game I'd actually buy at this point.
Also, Blu-ray should fucking burn in hell.
-
I am considering a PS3 right now as well because of the fact that it's a cheap alternative to a blu-ray player. But it will probably be a couple months before I get it. And who knows, maybe MS will release another peripheral add-on for the 360 that plays blu-ray.

Make sure you get a 20GB or 60GB then. Personally, I'll wait for PCX2 to come along.
-
Beware that the only truly backward-compatible PS3 is a dying SKU.
I want Blu-ray to burn in hell also, but I'm not going to bury my head in the sand if HD-DVD goes the way of the dodo. The PS3 probably is the only safe Blu-ray player to get right now. Seems that there may be an issue with newer "profiles" (read "upgrades to the format") not being backward-compatible with existing "profiles".
I would not buy a PS3 for the games anytime soon.
-
Yea the 60GB PS3 available here is the backwards compatible one.
-
I'd like to waste the money on that model before it disappears, but... bleh. I can't. Not unless we got a much cheaper TV than we're planning on getting. Provided we're even still getting one. Which I sort of don't know now.

Define cheap. You can get Blu-Ray players for under $250.
-
I checked out the bluray forums, and they suggest that those $250 players aren't perfect. Most people say the best bluray player is the PS3.
I just need a new console to play party games on. I actually think the 360 is better, especially the controllers. I just think the PS3 is going to have more exclusives in the future, though you never know.
-
Party games? And you're buying a PS3?
-
Well something I can attach tons of controllers to heh.
-
Wouldn't the Wii be the obvious choice for party games?
-
Well I do have the Gamecube. Plus the Wii is as expensive as the PS3 here. Crazy stuff.
-
For most people, the Wii was as expensive as the PS3 toward the end of last month.
This cracked me up: The Downfall of HD-DVD (http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2008/01/the_downfall_of_hd_dvd_now_available_on_bluray-2.html) starring Adolf Gates. I guess it's only funny if you don't understand German.
-
There was a used Wii in the store the other day for $210, but it had a busted controller. I *really* wanted to buy it but I'm terribly broke.
-
Well, the reason people suggest buying the PS3 if you want a Blu-ray player is that it's the only one out of the current crop of BR players that's future proof-ish. Since BR is an unfinished spec, the players now won't be able to make use of features that will be on future BR discs. That's where the whole Profile 1.1 and everything comes in. The PS3 can be updated in the future to profile 2.0, while the standalones can't be updated meaning you paid upwards of $800 for an incomplete player.
Yay for unfinished specs.
