Yeah, this was pretty stupid.  Apparently, not even New York's mayor knew that was going on.  They should have at least let him know, and then he could have had something printed in the New York Times or put out on the news on TV.

Very dumb, but it made me laugh.  I pictured everyone scurrying on the ground in response to a photo op.  If they kept it under wraps to have everyone act normally on the ground when it happened, they slightly miscalculated.  I imagine the pictures they took will be useless as PR now too.
