Title: Listen to this.

Play this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rqqg-WTxd-w).  Minimize the window.  Don't watch the pictures or read the comments.  Just listen.

I did the exact opposite of what you suggested. I muted it, read the comments, and watched the video.

I think I made the right choice.

I listened to it in the backround, wondering what you were getting at.  I can't say I know much about that type of music at all, but I thought it was really good.  And then I made the mistake of reading the comments and found out I'm an uncultured philistine.  So, this brings up the question of if these chicks actually suck or if there's just a backlash because we all know you can't sing opera and be anything but funny looking.

Shit, I don't know if that should be a question mark or not.  God damn it....I AM a philistine.

I went through the same process, except I realized that I was reading Youtube comments, at which point I stopped. Youtube comments are to logic what shit on a canvas is to art - it makes sense to some people, but those people are fucking retarded.

It's funny because it's a whole different type of youtube comment....yet, entirely the same.

Just heard it on the radio on the way home from work and really enjoyed it.  Apparently I'm an uncultured philistine as well.  A lot of opera really doesn't do it for me, but that one happened to.

Heh.  Yeah, I'm not an opera lover, but this was pleasant enough in the background.  I read the comments too, and was puzzled by the hate.  She's certainly not untalented, even if she doesn't measure up to some cultural standard I can't judge.  I have no sympathy for snobs, even if what they're saying has some validity.  (Does it?)

Frankly, I don't like a lot of operatic voices.  I liked this song in particular because it was operatic in style but the voices were a bit more... I don't know, clean and simple somehow.  It's hard to express it since while I do listen to a lot of classical, I don't generally listen to a lot of opera.

In the end, I thought the piece itself was beautiful and the two ladies sung it very nicely together.  As far as I'm concerned that's really all one needs for music to be good.  Could it be better?  Maybe.  But so what?
