Outward is a hard game to describe, its an open world, action, survival RPG where the main focus is to go "outward" and explore. You need to sleep, eat, drink, craft and repair weapons. You have a back pack that can carry a certain about of weight and that is everything that you have with you (minus your stash if you have a house). You need to be able to have gear that protects you from the heat and the cold, you need to heal your own diseases and ailments and you even have cook your own food.
There is no EXP in this game, all spells, recipes, blueprints, etc have to be found our bought. Unlike a lot of RPGs, money is hard to come by and always remains important throughout the game. You'll be scavenging everything, loading up your backpack and running to the nearest merchant to unload all of the loot you've come across.
There is a lot going on in this game and apparently it has co-op, I haven't tried that out however. Maybe this review can help explain this very complex game.
