Crysis at the CES

The part where he just starts punching crap around looks unrealistic, but that's because the game allows you to wear a bio suit that is upgradeable. Kinda like Deus Ex.

Also I like how he picked up the gun. But yea the AI needs a bit of work.

I love how people are already passing judgment from a small clip. :D

Heh... it seems cool.  I don't really care that much yet, though.  Too much else to look forward to and it's too far off.  I'll probably get more excited when things get closer.

Looked pretty sweet to me. The only bad thing that I noticed was the AI running into the wall in the tower, which hopefully will be fixed by the release.

Given how good the AI was in Far Cry, I can't imagine them letting it slide too much.  At least, I seem to remember the AI being good.  I could be mistaken.  I kinda' forget.

The punching looks pretty shit, maybe they'll fix it up before release.

You know what would be awesome? If someone implimented some script where if the AI accidentally runs into objects they fall back like they actually ran into the object like an idiot. That way if the AI trips up or if you have bad AI it just looks like you're fighting a bunch of dumbasses. That would make sense considering most of the armies of these types of games would be filled with morons anyways.

It's incredible that even by watching a shitty flash video of a camcorder recording of a TV screen, you can still be completely amazed.

The word "impressive" doesn't even come close.

In an earlier article, it was reported that Crysis was running at 60+ fps for most of the time at CES 2007. In this new article, Jack Mamais tells techspot that the game is running at a resolution of 2048x1536. Judging by the HUD size in the images below, this seems like it's true.Combine that information with the fact that most of the code is still unoptimized, and you can easily understand how well Crysis will run. Take note that Crysis was running in DX10 at CES 2007, so could Microsoft's claim of 6 to 8 time the performance be true? If you read some of the earlier news items or read the techspot link posted below, you'd also know that Crysis was running an unknown core 2 duo processor and a single 8800GTX.

This really is incredible news. This proves that any current DX10 rig will run Crysis perfectly smooth with all graphical settings max at a resolution of atleast 1600x1200. Like mentioned above, the size of the HUD in the images below tells us that the game was running at a fairly high resolution.

I'm predicting that a mid-range DX10 card (8600GT / X2600XT) will run Crysis in DX10 better than any current DX9 rig running Crysis in DX9.

Finally, we can all rest easy.

That doesn't surprise me too much.  I mean FarCry looked awesome at its release too and it ran really well also.

Very true.  It was a very tightly developed game and engine.

Yes it should run pretty well on DX9 as well.

Cerat Yerli of Crytek says 2-3 year old PC's should be able to run Crysis.

Crytek: Crysis Will Run on 2-3 y.o. Rigs
By Kris Graft    Print   |   Send to a friend   |   Email the editor
Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli tells Next-Gen that new technology will allow the upcoming Crysis to run on gaming rigs up to three years old; developer also talks about going "Vista-only" and the transition to DX10, Vista and multi-core processors.

Digg this story here.

ImageYerli explains how Frankfurt-based Crytek plans to make the sharp-looking FPS Crysis accessible to a wide audience of PC gamers. "We developed almost all effects to be very scalable for different hardware specs," he says. "Fortunately this is much easier now that we can rely on the existence of hardware shaders. We believe clearly that Crysis will be enjoyed by a large audience that dates back to gamers with two- to three-year-old gaming rigs."

Although Yerli is confident that Crysis will run on older setups, he suggests that if you can only play the game on DX9, try not to view the game running in the superior DX10. "We work hard to give everyone a great experience," he states. "You should not miss anything when [only] playing it on DX9, but if you get a chance to play it on DX10 you might [miss the fidelity when going back to DX9].

He adds that close ties with software and hardware partners have helped Crytek overcome the complicated transition to Vista, DX10 and multi-core processors. Yerli says, "Working with early DX10 hardware was challenging, but our strong connections with Nvidia, Intel and Microsoft have helped a lot. We rarely had crashes, blue screens or rebooting machines."

He elaborates, "For DX10, we had to make bigger changes in our renderer. To utilize multi-core machines we identified good candidates, [such as] particle system and physics, and made them multi-threaded. It's normal development, but bugs are harder to track, performance is less predictable and there is no benefit for single core processors. So not to sacrifice single core performance, [development] needs to be done carefully and [performance] benchmarked often."

Microsoft corporate VP Peter Moore says that the recently released Vista OS will herald a PC gaming "Renaissance." Yerli says that it's "about time" for such a Renaissance, adding that Crytek is poised to support Vista to the fullest.

"Most likely we will upgrade all dev stations to Vista and move to Vista-only titles, but that’s not 100 percent decided yet," he says. As for the Games for Windows marketing initiative, which will see standardized PC game boxes at retail, he has strong hopes for the move, as Crysis will be branded with the GFW mark.

There is no firm release date for Crysis yet, and anticipation is running high. While Yerli thanks fans for the support, he does make one light-hearted plea: "Please dear fans, stop posting threatening messages to us to ship the game, we will do it asap, we promise!"
