It's going to have to pull some serious magic tricks if it wants to compete with inFamous, and possibly Prototype.  And I'll tell you right now, nobody into these games gives a shit about how good the MP component is.

I did like the first, but it's got much bigger shoes to fill than it would have a year ago.

Que -- for the first time, I saw Prototype's trailer today and all (saw it on Steam).
That looks pretty bad-ass.

EDIT - Dec 13th, 2009 post:

Reviews are starting to pop-up now for Crackdown 2.
So, given that...expect reviews to wind-up in the beginning of this thread.
And oh yeah - thread bump.

Sounds pretty mediocre.  I was hoping they would have improved on the overall blandness of the first but it seems they didn't.

Yeah, that's a shame.  I really loved the first for what it offered, though.  Just jumping around all the buildings to find all the stat-boosting drops and stuff was really super fun.  That made that game for me.

Agree, Que. Combat played second fiddle to that. I picked up Crackdown (1) years later for $5 and played that more than a lot of $60 pabulum.

Oh I totally agree that it was awesome collecting the stars to up your agility and max our your character in general.  It was also pretty fun trying to get to the top of the police HQ.  But the actual game missions, especially the extra side ones like racing... There just wasn't much there.

I was hoping the sequel would keep what made the first fun and improve the mission offering.

I'm terribly disappointed in the demo.  I thought it would at least be comparable to the original.  More of the same would not have been a bad thing.  Sadly, not so.  It feels icky.  Hard to describe.  It's like they went out of their way to fuck up a good thing.  In the original, you feel in control from the get-go, and the great power and agility of your character is a rush.  The big bad world is your playground.  Here, it just feels like a chore, where you're slower and can do little more than constantly defend yourself.  I was able to reach *one* agility orb in the half hour of the demo.  Turning with the right stick is inexplicably slow, like you're pushing the camera through molasses.  I found no sensitivity or speed slider for that.  Everything looks grungy, including vehicles.  Controls there suck too, though I could probably get more used to them.  I know the city is supposed to be ruined.  The game, though, wasn't supposed to be ruined along with it.  The zombies make me think that somebody in the design team really liked Dead Rising.  They just pop up at night and they're everywhere.  Driving through hordes of them feels almost exactly like the underground garage drives in DR, only shittier looking.

Ah, well.  It's not like I'm lacking a backlog of great games to get.  This won't be on that list.
