Topic: Volver (movie, starring Penelope Cruz and directed by Almodovar)

Anyone seen this Pedro Almodovar flick yet that stars Penelope Cruz?

Okay, I watched it.

I must say, it was a really good movie.

For as serious the movie can be and w/ such dark topics and tones the film actually deals with, oddly enough, the movie can be quite funny....

Yeah, I liked it a lot.  I'm a huge Almodovar fan (I recently bought that "Viva Pedro" box set--it's a beautiful thing), and one of my favorite things about him is what you just touched on, which is his blending of humor and gravity.  Good stuff, a real master.

Yeah, in the movie, there were some scenes that were downright disturbing, yet there were others that were you downright hilarious.

Volver -- The Restaurant Scenes

The hilarious part of them hiding a dead body in the freezer in a restaurant....
....yet they are serving food to an entire movie crew...and on more than one occasion!

I have not seen Bad Education -- was that any good???
Is that in the "Viva Pedro" Collection???

There's the box, and in addition to having eight great films, the extras, as well as the packaging, are all excellent.  Bad Education is included.  I liked it a lot, too, but it doesn't have quite the humor of Volver.  My favorite recent film of his is probably Talk to Her, but it's hard to pick an all-time favorite, but none are bad.  If you have some sort of netflix-like thing, you would definitely not be wasting your time by going through his catalog.
