How strange. BF2142 at least stuck the ads on billboards and places you might really see ads. Valve just kind of put them wherever they would fit.

Couldn't care less. I don't think we have any CS players on these boards anymore do we? I guess this just shows the trend that these games are taking with adds in online games.

Just seems like a dick move on Valves part. As if they haven't made enough money off CS, plus there really aren't any new features or maps being added. So wheres the need for the extra income? Its not like it even pays for hosted servers!

Now if they came out and said they were releasing CS 1.6 for free through Steam because the ads pay for it, then thats cool. But that won't happen.

Man, I haven't used Steam in ages.. The last time I used was just to play some HL2 singleplayer.. I hate that I have to go through the Steam process just to get some offline singleplayer action.

I always hated CS, I still hate CS, and over the years I've grown to hate Valve, and every day their lovely business practices only cause me to hate them even more. Fuck CS, fuck Steam, fuck Valve, etc. etc. etc.

I haven't played CS in so long. Also it is sad that they finally do an update and it is to include adverts.

I love Rainbow Six: Vegas, but it is distracting how the AXE deo company has a monopoly on all adverts in the city of Las Vegas.

I agree. Valve was never 'cool' in my books. They only had one title, and nothing else to warrant them as anything but a one hit wonder developer. Plus, it was really HL's mods that brought the game to fame and sustained it.

Agreed. I was always pissed off that everyone was so in love with them, which is exactly why everybody is taking the whole Steam thing up the ass. Had someone like id proposed Steam, I'd have been a lot more inclined to listen (even if I still ended up hating it).

id would have made a non-evil steam. Just a downloader/updater and then just add a key to your account/game. You never even have to see the key.

This is probably true, but still, you see what I'm saying. I just don't think Valve had proven themselves enough for anyone to even consider what they proposed, but everybody just went and did it anyway and the industry treats the fuckers like gods. It's stupid.

I haven't played CS in a while, but that's only because I spend all my time either studying or drinking now (mostly drinking). I'll definitely continue playing when I have time, and while these ads are a tad lame, I could care less. There were already a ton of public servers that run/ran plugins and whatnot that allow them to display their own ads, so it's not a completely new thing.

Either way though, it's pretty fucking lame.

Yeah, that is probably what would've happened.

Id has always been great for the gaming industry -- namely for their great game engines. I'm sure if they came up w/ something like Steam, it'd be a hell of a lot less intrusive, been lot better designed, and a hell of a lot cooler.
