Well, looks like they got their wish!

2K announced it.

Earlier this week, Cult of Rapture, 2K's official Web site for BioShock, drew attention to an online petition asking the publisher to release a collector's edition of Irrational Games' upcoming first-person shooter. In the posting, a 2K representative said that if the petition received 5,000 signatures, the publisher would indeed make a limited edition of the game available.

According to a follow-up post on the site today, the petition met its goal of 5,000 later that night, and kept going. As of this writing, more than 18,000 people have added their names to the request. Today's update confirms that there will be a collector's edition of the game available for both the PC and the Xbox 360, but it indicates that the specific bonuses to be included in the package have not yet been determined.

To that end, Cult of Rapture is hosting a poll asking users to select from a number of optional goodies, with the winning choice being included in the collector's edition package. The slate of possible bonuses includes a soundtrack CD, an artbook, a figurine of the game's Big Daddy characters, a "making of" DVD, posters, better packaging, and an art print with the team's signatures on it.

As of press time, nearly 10,000 visitors had submitted their choices, with the Big Daddy figurine receiving 37 percent of the votes. The "making of" DVD, soundtrack CD, and art book followed at 16 percent, 15 percent, and 14 percent of the vote, respectively.

That's pretty cool, but you idiots!  Don't vote for a fucking mini!  Every single other option is at least 100% better.

If there's gonna be a Collector's Ed, I'd rather have the soundtrack, making of the game, and/or art book. 1 of those 3 beat the figurine, if you ask me.

Personally, I'd want the soundtrack.

Soundtrack is worthless if you have to pick and choose.  Soundtracks are completely easy to get from games because most of the time you can just rip it right out.  Who cares if it's "official" or not.  Unless I get something separate from the game, with its own case and artwork and stuff, I don't care much anyway.  Artbook or DVD are the best choices, and the DVD is the best choice because so many publishers fuck up art books.  If they're huge and awesome, then they're huge and awesome, but so many are tiny or lame.  Gears of War was the first small one I've seen that was actually cool.  It was hardback and had nice stuff in it, even if it was postcard-sized.  Video stuff is almost always the easiest thing for them to do *well*, hence it gets my vote.  Also, it has the most votes other than the mini... and I'd have voted for anything that had a greater shot at beating out the mini.  But it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

If it's the whole thing, that's great. Already packaged and all, that's nice! :)

Yeah, this is indeed true....point taken there.

Many games have the music in the MP3 format already -- such as Vamp: Bloodlines.

I do like the game art books, but yeah -- most aren't that big or wide.

Making of the game DVD's, I usually watch those. Though, I never watched the one for FEAR and Q4. Though, I should....

You know, I didn't finish watching the FEAR videos.  Huh.  I totally forgot about that.
