Why I am too scared to buy a 360.
« on: Wednesday, October 31, 2007, 02:19:10 AM »
I need a new console damnit. The Gamecube worked wonders for me, but there is only so much my friends and I can play. I've had both the Xbox and the PS2, and I have to say that I had 10 times more fun with my little GC. It has brought a lot of splitscreen joy to me and my friends. Unfortunately Mario Tennis stops getting fun after you play it a billion times a row (Who would have thought?)

So I need something new, and I keep thinking of the 360. Yet certain things scare me:

Well yea, its already well known of the failure issues with 360s. I had a problem with mine when I first bought one which I have posted about. All this does is further cement that fact that EB and Gamestop are a bunch of money greedy game retailing asshats. I hope they lose shit tons of profit from this.
There's other places you can go to get extended store warranties, just go to them and dont give EB or GS your business, cause they dont deserve it.

Well the newer 360s are apparently being made on a smaller process, so I hope that has taken care of the problem.

Yes.  Did you miss my thread on the subject?  That has to be a big help.  Besides, MS now basically warrants the 360 for as long as you own it.  I'm not saying it's OK to be shipping dead consoles to MS every few months.  Nothing is worth that hassle.  Assuming you can get a healthy, lasting console, I don't think I'd buy any other right now.  The Wii is still too quirky and thin on the software side, plus the controller paradigm is still in growing pains.  The PS3 is an overpriced desert which may or may sort itself out in the future.  You don't have to buy one of the current consoles at all, you know.  Aren't you happy with your monster gaming PC?

I'd be scared to buy a 360 b/c all the games I have a major interest in either are co-developed for the X360 and PC simultaneously (Hitman: Blood Money, Oblivion, CoD4: Modern Combat, Orange Box) or are X360 games that later will likely be ported to the PC (Gears of War, Assassin's Creed). :P

Which is why I'm asking Pug why he'd even consider the 360 (or the PS3 for that matter).  Of the games that I have, you absolutely need a 360 for only a handful.

Well I get about 8 cousins over regularly and we mostly play the gamecube. There is only so much gamecube you can play...

The problem is that warranties don't apply in this part of the world. Anyone have a Wii on these boards? Are there are any Wii exclusive party games?

edit:

Yea I love my PC. The only system I can enjoy playing a singleplayer game on, is the PC.
