Nintendo E3 conference
« on: Wednesday, July 11, 2007, 10:13:51 AM »
Read!

Iwata will show a new game in a few minutes. Other stuff like Smash Bros release on Dec 3, Mario Kart Wii shown, etc. Good times. Strangely, WiiFit seems kind of cool.

10:12: Your in-game Mii actually changes ni visible girth depending on your BMI. Reggie is overweight, apparently. His BMI is 27.51.

10:09: Demonstrating Wii Balance Board peripheral. When playing, can indicate whether you're wearing light or heavy clothes. Balance Board measures how your center of gravity shifts over time, tracks day by day. Tracks Body Mass Index over time. Has graph comparing progression for all players using the console.

10:06: Demonstrating Wii Fit on stage. Features four genres: aerobics, muscle condition, yoga, and balance games. Over 40 activity in game.

9:59: Miyamoto's game: Wii Fit, fitness game with a small floor pad. Seems to detect levels of pressure and activity and mirror your actions in-game to determine your movements and presumably calorie-burning. Also has multiplayer dancing component. Has Brain Age-like progress graphics and stuff. Has balance games where you shift weight on the pad to control Monkey Ball-like game. Seems to have Yoga or something as well.

I need a Wii.

Yeah, when they said they were showing a new game from him then they went to WiiFit I was like "Oh, they'll be showing it after this WiiFit thing"...then it hit me. Damn. Was hoping for a bit more there.

Still, I actually want WiiFit.

How does Mario Kart Wii look? I missed it on tv and I can't find any pics of it...I just hope the whole snaking thing is gone.

I just woke up and started watching the press conference. Here the first thought I have:

"People of all ages play games. 2/3 of men age 25-50 in Wii households play. Half of people over 50 in a Wii household play."

Nintendo will not allow an "Adults Only" rated game on their system.

No, he would have been calling us fatties if he named it WiiFat.

Sorry, that was bad.

You know what Nintendo could do with this WiiFit thing? Make a pedometer addon for the DS. Slips into the GBA slot like the rumble pack, and have some DS software that tracks your walking and such. Turn on the DS, start the "game", and close the lid and it tracks. Or have it track even when off (battery in the cart itself?) and only turn the DS on to check your progress. Then you can upload all this to WiiFit for even more stat/health tracking. How far do I walk in a day? Week? Month?

Plus it gets people to carry their DS around more. I should work for Nintendo...

I watched the Metroid trailer.... damn it. I shouldn't have. I know I'll get the game and it showed me something I didn't want to see.
