My uncle just died.
« on: Wednesday, September 20, 2006, 06:04:29 PM »
My aunt who I used to live below when I first came here, her husband was her cousin (it was those sort of times) and pretty much like my uncle.

A week ago all of a sudden he called my sister and I for lunch, and he was the sort of person who didn't display much personal emotions, though was one of the most heartiest and jolliest people I have ever met. His goal was to entertain everyone else in life, but lately he had been down.

He said some personal stuff to us that shocked both of us.

Anyway just got a call at 5:00am local time that he had been suddenly taken to the hospital a few hours ago and had passed away.

He was such a good guy, if wish the rest of you could have met him or something. You've probably met a guy like him actually. Really overweight, always cracking jokes, loved his family, always buying people stuff and refusing to accept a penny.

I am about to leave for the hospital. What the hell.

That's always hard.  Very sorry to hear about your loss.  It's always extra tough when you lose someone that was really selfless.  It was the same way with my Dad.  You see all the selfish jerks and freaks out in the world and just wonder... why do they get to live when a truly good person had to die?

Keep your head up.  Spend time with family.  Make sure you remember all those good qualities that he had and do your best to keep them alive in yourself and to encourage them in those around you.  We just lost Julia's grandfather and that was really hard.  Spent a lot of time doing funeral-related things and being with her family.  But he was a great man and we've all just tried to be thankful for the things he imparted to us during his time on earth.

I'm sorry to hear that Pug.  I lost my grandfather in June and just did exactly what Que said, remember the good times and it will help to make things go by easier.

Yea they haven't come back from the hospital yet, so I am still around. He was one of the nicest people ever. Kids especially loved it. They'd jump on him and scream his name when they'd see him. He'd take like a 20 kids in the family out for a fun dinner or something every week. This isn't just now. This was when I was a kid, and I'd stay over at his house and he'd do all this insanely fun stuff a grown up is too pretentious to.

He has been like this all his life, and I just can't believe it.

My sister and I will leave as soon as we get the call, but this is going to be tough. I feel so bad for my aunt and my cousins.

That is really, really sad Pug.  Just keep that head up.

From your description, I know a guy just like that.  My girlfriend's uncle.  He is basically a big kid, but can always make everyone laugh.  He always visited my girlfriend when she was in the hospital and was always cracking jokes.  He is an awesome guy, but he is REALLY overweight and having a lot of health problems, so I fear his time may be near as well.

Suck it, Pugnate.

Yeah, I did know a guy like this too. He was a buddy of my Dad and he actually passed away about a month ago too... I didn't see him all that often for the past decade or so, so I wasn't really hit that hard, but it does suck.

Sorry Pug.

That sucks dude. I wish there was something I can say to make you feel better that hasnt already been said. Such a good person is hard to part with and it feels like these kinds of things happen suddenly. Anyway, I'll be thinking of you in my prayers man.

I don't think I've ever lost someone close to me before, so I can't really say I know what you're going through. But I do hope everyone involved is able to work through it alright.

Just came back and it was all a pretty shocking and tiresome affair. My aunt's eyes were just red all day as relatives from all over called or poured in. I guess it would have been much easier to take if he were really old or death had been expected.

Something like this was just crazy.

His grandfather had actually purchased out of town property to use as a burial site for the family. My uncle's   father and a couple of brothers are buried there as well.

When I finally saw him, he looked exactly like a corpse does on TV. Basically the same as a regular body, except much paler.

Earlier I had cried a lot, especially when I saw my aunt. I sat in his bedroom, and it felt so weird because I couldn't believe I had just seen him a few days ago.

I know how you feel man. He's in a better place now, al7amdulillah.

By the way: for those who don't know what "al7amdulillah" means, it's basically "Special Thanks to God." Sorry, in matters of death I usually revert to my Islamic and Arabic side.

My condolences to you and your family, Pug. This is a tough thing to go through, I just went through the exact same thing last week when my grandmother passed away. She was the same as your uncle, it seems- even as she was laying on her bed barely able to speak, she was cracking jokes. It was funny, but sad at the same time with the realization that you will never hear those jokes again. The best thing to do is just to be around your family. Hugs are the best cure for sadness.
