Yea it looks like a pretty damn good game.  But since I have Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and Gears of War to play currently, I'll wait a bit before getting the new Rainbow Six.

That is interesting, because I think it is the first time Gspot ever gave a R6 game a score of over 9.0. Even when the series was at its best, they cut major points for the length. Anyway glad this is good... I just hope it is worth something on the PC.

GRAW for Xbox 360 scored over a 9.0 I think.

This game really does look awesome though.  I was getting myself all pumped for an Xbox 360 on false hope over that amazon thing.  I might just have to buy one full price at this point.

Yea I am sure it did, but for some reason Gamespot always were anal about the R6 games. I just hope the PC version is good.

They seemed awfully generous with Lockdown. That game deserved a 4~6 and they gave an 8. I'm glad they took R6 away from that specific Ubisoft studio though. Ubisoft Montréal know what they're doing.

Yep, exactly.

I would like to gleefully announce that I just got a Radeon X1650 Pro! As far as I know it's the best AGP card available from ATi. There's a rumour going around that ATi is considering a Radeon X1950 AGP, but there hasn't been anything official on that yet.

I finally got to play Splinter Cell Double Agent! And Wow! It is gorgeous! The multiplayer is incredible!

Yeah it's ridiculous. Apparently it's a really heavy game, even more than SCDA. Right now I meet the minimum reqs. The only thing short of recommended is my CPU (Athlon64 3700+).

For some reason I always thought it was developed with the GRAW engine, but it's Unreal baby! Based on the screenshots and videos I've seen it looks pretty damn good!

These people are just getting freaking' lazy. They are just porting the 360 level of graphics without offering much scalability? But at least...at least they are honest.

How many times have we all checked requirements mentioned on a box only to come home to see it runs like a slide show?

Right now I'm teetering on the minimum/recommended reqs. My bottleneck is now my CPU.

Y'know which system I'd love to have? The one that guy got with the "Never Gonna Own a PS3" contract. It was a sleek system and a sweet deal.

Yea tech. has moved pretty far and pretty fast. My last processor was the Athlon 64 3800+ which cost me $320. My currently processor is easily twice as fast, dual core, and only $220.

When I bought my 3800 it was at the time in the middle of the ladder (with the 4000, FX53, FX55, FX57 ahead), and even then it was $320.

My E6400 is running at E6800 speeds at only 38 degrees (Can you believe that?) with next to normal voltage and FSB settings. It is a pity that AMD was happy sitting on its rear end.

Do you guys have 939 motherboards? If so, then AMD are ironing the 939 processors out and you can get ok deals. The X2 4800 can be found for about $280 -- which is still ridiculously high. Or the X2 4600 can be found for about $200 and over clocked. I think the X2 4800 has a higher L2 cache.

The X1950pro from ATi is a damn good card for just over $200.

Yeah man, my Socket 939 is a mobo I'm planning to keep for a while ;D I won't upgrade my CPU until I get a good deal on a Dual Core, most probably the AMD X2 4800.

Well, I spent $205 (incl. tax) on my X1650 (that was with a $70 off sale), and I've got 30 days to return it. If ATi come up with an AGP version of the X1950 for a decent price in the next couple of weeks I'm gonna go replace it.

What?! Where? It's not listed anywhere! Not even the ATi website! Either way I'll have to wait till Futureshop gets it.

EDIT:
Futureshop only has the PCIe version, and it's $350 before tax. There's no sale on it either. Check it out here.

Also, the X1650 Pro I got is the 512mb version.

It isn't listed anywhere? I saw it was released. So far only under Asus and ATi.

FutureShop is a rip off. I'd suggest eBay but the problem is it is really really risky for something expensive like vid cards... I know a lot of people that had problems. There was a shop in Toronto that I used to buy from. Do you remember where it was? I think Phil. knows.

Also try www.tigerdirect.ca

Also if you are on AGP there is the 7800GS as well.

There is an online seller I know who could be able to get you a 7800GS AGP for $250 USD incl. shipping. I'll have to talk to him first, and you will have to send him a money order, but I trust him. I bought my 8800GTX off of him. I didn't buy off of eBay. I just sent him the money and he shipped the item without a contract. I've known him for a long time so I trust him.

http://www.bfgtech.com/7800GS_256.html

This is what he is selling for $249, but I know I can get him to give a discount. Lifetime warranty on that card as well.

TigerDirect.ca was the first place I checked, and they didn't have it. I'm pretty sure the AGP version of the X1950 would have been announced or at least listed on the ATi products page.

Futureshop is normally a rip, so I usually resort to a couple of small stores around town. This time though, the X1650 Pro 256mb was $173 at the little store, and the X1650 Pro 512mb was $179 at Futureshop! After tax it came up $205, with the 30 day no-hassle warranty not a bad deal.

I don't understand. how is the X1650pro so much cheaper in Pakistan? It is $120.

Anyway I am trying to find the link where I saw the X1950AGP. It was definitely out but in limited quantities. I think it was on some tech forum.

edit:

There you go my dear:

http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=5154

$250 MSRP... which means about $220 in stores. This is a badass card, and it is AGP so I might be getting this for my young bro.

BTW, that's still not the link I meant. And yes I find out stuff before the ATi website announces it hehe.

edit 2:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-004-GC

GeCube is also making it. It is expensive in the UK because the brits are fucked when it comes to these things. Still doesn't go over MSRP.

Hey Pug, did you get the game? I know you're quite the Rainbow Six fan. I haven't played any games since Rogue Spear and it's countless expansions, and really had no inclination to play this one. But yesterday, I saw some videos of this game and my opinion completely changed. You need to go and play it. My rig can't run it at all, but you won't have that problem :)

The card is nowhere to be found out here. I'd love to get my hands on the Sapphire one!

Yeah man, I still can't believe how craptastic Lockdown was. I have learned a valuable lesson though. The best Ubisoft is Ubisoft Montréal. If you see any Tom Clancy games ever again by any another studio, there's a damn good chance it sucks donkey balls. Heck, Ubi Montréal has been responsible for most of the successful franchise Ubisoft has.

R6 Vegas certainly looks much better, and according to the player reactions the gameplay is vastly improved as well. One thing I read that I'm very happy with is that the PC version is supposed to be the same as its console counterparts! It's about frickin' time! Lockdown PC was a huge HUGE rip off. I wouldn't have minded if they ported the exact Xbox game to PC! But they completely shredded it! We asked for French toast and they gave us crumbs from yesterday's breakfast! Fuckers! Man I'm all pissed off and charged up again! That was $50 I could have used for food! I wish I could have returned it! But fuckin' Futureshop's software return policy says Noooo! God!

Rainbow Six is what brought me into PC gaming really.  I mean, I was a pretty casual PC gamer in the past, but R6 is what really got me started.

I'm probably gonna pick up Vegas for the 360 sometime in the next couple of days if I can find it.  It looks good :).

I didn't really like any of the R6 sequels though, only the original.

I loved Raven Shield. The majority of the fanbase loved it, and it was a lot of fun. The multiplayer was always a blast. As of yet it's still my favourite R6 game, pending Vegas.

Oh, I just found out that the 3rd person cam moments (like when you take cover or rappel) are also in the PC version. According to the players on the official forums, the 360 and the PC version are virtually identical. There is one feature I suspect didn't make it to PC though: the option to scan your face and import it into the game to create a customized multiplayer character. I'm a little sceptical, but I'm still investigating it. It would be a nice option.

Which brings me to thinking why the Hell do developers remove customization features from games for the PC version??? The PC is the ultimate platform for customization!! Like in Lockdown, they actually limited the custom characters for PC! And they completely removed the custom character mission mode! Are they frickin' retarded??!

Yea dudey, Raven Shield was good. As for customization options, they are just freaking lazy.

IGN review

The IGN review for once seems a lot closer to my feelings than the Gamespot one:

Quote
PC gamers feel some bit of ownership when it comes to franchises like Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six. It's no wonder considering what awesome games the originals were on the PC. They were tactical and exciting and were about as realistic as you could get at the time. Since those glory days Ubisoft has made the decision to make console skews a higher priority. It's unsurprising considering sales numbers on those systems but it tends to leave PC gamers looking to revisit yesteryear at a bit of a disadvantage. Expensive to create games like Rainbow Six: Vegas have to appeal to as large an audience as possible, which means the niche market for hardcore realistic tactical shooters is left out. Niche fans are likely going to be pretty pissed about Rainbow Six: Vegas because it's definitely not the Rainbow Six that was. Does that mean it's a bad game? No, not at all. It's just way different than it used to be. Are we sad about the change in the PC version? Very. But even through the tears it's pretty clear that Rainbow Six: Vegas is an accomplished action shooter. It's packed with gunfights, full of excitement, looks good, and provides plenty of mindless entertainment. If only the framerate was steady and multiplayer stable we'd be much happier.

Quote
This is not the Rainbow Six PC gamers have wanted to see return. The tactical planning sessions are gone as are teammates who can be killed. The original Rainbow Six games were tense affairs that pushed methodical action from room to room with a real sense of danger. Rainbow Six was also six people back in the day each soldier could be given commands to make sure that all angles were covered. The Rainbow Six we have in Vegas is a straight fast action shooter. It may not be run and gun like Halo or DOOM, but it's certainly not going for the realism of old. Is this a bad thing? For players that would love to see the old planning sessions make a return, the answer is obviously yes. But that doesn't make Vegas a bad game. It's absolutely entertaining. There's so much combat and gunfire over the course of the game in well designed close quarter and large area levels that it's hard not to have plenty of mindless fun through the single player story mode.

I think IGN understood the PC fan's view far better than gamespot.

I do have Iron Wrath, though. Never installed it, but got it and the game key.
