Goldeneye Source

http://goldeneyesource.com/

Good times!  It's still somewhat buggy and there seems to be about 10 people that play it, but there's a lot of potential for this one.  I liked it a lot.

Doesn't have the features you'd expect in a modern online FPS game.  It's basically Goldeneye with new graphics and the ability to jump.

I smiled when I read the thread title, because I never got to experience this little piece of history.

One of the regulars on the IGN forums works on this project.

I downloaded one of the earlier releases, ended up running around some terribly cramped and dark map with a horrible layout and decided it probably wasn't for me.

You never played the original Goldeneye?  The maps, at least the ones in Beta 1.0, are basically direct copies of the original game's maps (though they added some of the areas from the SP portion of the game).

I was responding to idol.  But yeah, if you haven't played Goldeneye by now, I wouldn't bother.  It's clunky and ugly by today's standards.  You wouldn't be able to truly appreciate the game like you could have when it first came out.

Edit:  Those comments were meant to be about Goldeneye for the N64.  Goldeneye Source is a different beast.  It's Goldeneye, modernized.

My exposure to Goldeneye was the demo kiosk when it first came out.

I remember playing an earlier beta of this a just about a year ago. It was rudimentary but I could see its potential to grow into a revamped Goldeneye.

It seems like they have a lot of work to do.  Every time the time limit ran out (it's just run around and kill people for 20 minutes from what I can tell), instead of me switching maps with the server, the server would just drop me.  And the level lighting would blink on and off frequently.
