Gaming With Your Thoughts

I remember hearing about this years back and it's interesting to see how far they're getting with the technology.

That is pretty neat but I honestly dont see it going much further than that for a long time. Right now it seems they can only work with 2 brain wave patterns and those are at opposite poles. Its going to take a much longer time in order to translate more subtle brain wave patterns that reflect the broad span of more emotions, let alone making it sensitive enough to detect them, and thats only just working with general emotions.

I don't think we're anywhere near the ability to do this usefully.  Some have tried and failed.  I'd love to be wrong.

It is still far from practical operation. It's just nice to see what they've achieved so far.

It is pretty cool how they were able to map out the brain waves (and show some of its use in the Source Engine). Now I'm thinking about the prospect of 'psychological-thiller' games! Imagine a game that works with your emotional reactions; it knows when you're scared, excited, bored, frustrated, etc. The options seem promising. Sure it's far ahead, but imagine a game like Mass Effect with that added on. It could radically enhance the RPG experience.
