NCAA Tournament
« on: Friday, March 21, 2008, 07:32:28 PM »
Is anyone here following it?

I didn't make a bracket but I watch pretty much every ACC game (I live in NC) and am pulling for UNC since all 3 of my sisters have gone to school there. They are the #1 overall seed in the tournament and I think that they have a good chance. They just won their first game by around 50, but it was against a 16 seed, so it's not like the competition was that good.

I watched yesterday and today's games.  They have all been pretty good, and some REALLY good (Davidson/Gonzaga, WKY/Drake, Xavier game yesterday, etc).

My bracket sucks.
Suck it, Pugnate.

I entered in a pool and made a bracket, and I'm number 2 right now in the league. I picked Kansas to win it all, so I'm really hoping that someone upsets UNC. That would make it that much easier for Kansas. Still worried about Georgetown though. it has been very exciting to watch so far though.

I picked Georgetown overall.

Anyway, I love how exciting these games are.  Most are within a few points and it is realistic that either team can win.  I don't watch basketball at any other time of year, but I am glued to my set during March Madness.
Suck it, Pugnate.

The Georgetown pick didn't work out too well, huh?  ;)

Yeah - bad pick on Georgetown overall. But it's hard to predict these things.

Of course, I didn't do much better with the ACC picks. UNC looks really good but all other ACC teams are out. Davidson just won tonight and I ended up watching the whole thing. They looked really good and had excellent defense - I'm really pulling for them but I think that they will have a hard time next game against (what looks to be at this point) Kansas. I doubt that they can keep up that level of defense against a better team.

Does anyone else think that basketball games could easily be 2 minutes and it would be pretty much the same?  Basketball, IMO, is such a stupid-ass sport.

I used to think that before I really started to watch them a few years ago. If you are just watching for the final score you will never appreciate the game. You really have to watch it to enjoy it, and once that happens you will start to appreciate the entire game and how it is played.

My mom and dad are huge Xavier fans.  That said, I've been to countless Xavier games.  I used to try to get into it.  Now I just accept that sport is just retarded and games are unnecessarily long.

Edit: Man, I'm trolling aren't I... I didn't even realize it.  Anyway, yeah I think the sport is dumb, but I'll not argue about it further.  Sorry for derailing your thread a bit, Ghandi.

Well, lets assume that games are 3 minutes long as you say. There are plenty of teams that aren't as good that may be able to beat a better team for 3 minutes. But when you extend that to 20 minutes these teams may struggle. There have been plenty of teams in the tournament leading at the half by big margins that go on to lose. You really start to see how good some teams are by how they handle the entire game.

Edit: You're not trolling. It's fine. I used to have much the same mentality. It's a legitimate argument.
