Refurbished notebooks?
« on: Sunday, April 13, 2008, 04:22:07 PM »
Think there's a risk involved?  I want to pick up the $500 refurbished notebook I linked to in the EEEpc thread which should do nicely at $499. This is strictly for work purposes so I'm not too worried about little things like dead pixels, but what's the general opinion on buying refurbished computer goods?

I've never done it personally, but as I understand it all the refurbished notebooks come with the same warranty and guarantee as a new PC from the manufacturer.  If you can find the notebook that you want I'd say go for it.

I looked into a refurbished when I bought this notebook (close to a year ago... wow) but similarly configured refurbished notebooks weren't really much cheaper than the new one, and I had difficulty finding exactly what I wanted.

Awesome, I had a feeling it might be something like that.  I'll probably check it out more in-depth tonight. The one I'm looking at is marked down a good $300 and I'm not too worried about dealing with HP should something go wrong as they're a big enough company you can probably just keep on bitching up the ladder until someone appeases you. Thanks.

I bought a refurb laptop from Dell like 3 or so years ago.  I forget the specifics, but I remember it was dirt cheap and a lot faster than I expected.  I still use it every day almost and I haven't had a single problem with it yet.

What about a used laptop?  I got one on eBay for $290.
