Tom Clancy's EndWar Announced
April 24, 2007 - Hmm, ok, well at least it's not World War II or Mexico again:

Today Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, announced that it is creating Tom Clancy's EndWar, a new brand in the Tom Clancy series of video games. Led by strategy veteran and Ubisoft creative director Michael de Plater, Tom Clancy's EndWar is being developed by a world-class team at Ubisoft's Shanghai studio whose members have experience developing Ubisoft's hit franchises including Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell. Tom Clancy's EndWar is scheduled for release on next-generation consoles in fiscal year 2007/2008.

Set on the battlefields of World War III, Tom Clancy's EndWar will push the standards of technology, showcasing artificial intelligence, graphics, physics and animations that were not possible prior to the launch of the new hardware systems. Tom Clancy's EndWar has been built from the ground up as a revolutionary war strategy game solely for next-generation consoles.

"Our development teams are invigorated to be creating the first 100 percent next-generation Tom Clancy brand," said Serge Hascoët, chief creative officer at Ubisoft. "Our success with Tom Clancy franchises is unparalleled in the next-generation and Tom Clancy's EndWar will be a marvelous addition to the already critically acclaimed library of games. A strategy game like no other, EndWar will allow gamers to lead their own armies against hundreds of others online in real global locations on the massive battlefields of World War III."

Ubisoft's Tom Clancy video games are consistently among the best-selling and most critically-acclaimed video game series in the industry. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon games have collectively sold more than 45 million units worldwide to date. In 2006, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas was named Best First Person Action Game of the Year by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter took home the Best Video Game of the Year award from the prestigious BAFTA awards.

Tom Clancy's EndWar is featured in a world-exclusive first look in the June issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, available on news stands in North America on 8th May, 2007.

Yea I saw that and was really ticked that it isn't for the PC. That's bullshit. We made the Tom Clancy games what they are, and the PC platform does the RTS genre justice anyway.

Yea I'm quite surprised it's RTS.  Not interested in this one at all though.

Bleh @ a Tom Clancy game not on the PC.

Maybe it'll get a port someday...?

What RTS' are on the consoles right now? I really can't think of any except for C&C3 which isn't even out yet.

I think there was some Battle for Middle Earth game on Xbox (or 360) that some people said handled the controls pretty well.

Pug, you might get your wish.

UbiSoft is thinking of porting EndWar to the PC, at a later date.
If it's going to happen, expect it in 2009 for the PC.

Also, bound for the PC is Ubisoft's voice-control based real-time strategy Tom Clancy's EndWar. Now, this still isn't completely official. Michael de Plater, creative director at UbiSoft Shanghai, said that EndWar is likely to arrive for PC gamers, albeit probably no earlier than 2009. EndWar is being developed strictly for consoles, but, as de Plater explained they are considering the PC option. "We're obviously looking at it. A good strategy game is a good strategy game," he said.

If Ubisoft Shanghai is involved I don't expect anything decent. It'll probably be a bug-ridden pile of disappointment for everyone looking forward to this title.

UbiSoft Shanghai's port of SC: Double Agent PC has poorly handled -- from the horrible saved game sorting, to quicksaves getting destroyed when you quit out the game, to the poor technical performance of the game -- yeah, you do gotta' point, Xessive.

Underneath the poor port, SC:DA was still a decent game. It just sure as hell wasn't SC:CT in any regard at all. SC:CT for the PC did everything right in just about every regard -- except for come equipped w/ StarForce.

What was once thought to be a possibility, looks like it's going to be a definite now.
PC version will be coming for EndWar.

EndWar creative director Michael de Plater has said those waiting for a PC version of Tom Clancy’s EndWar have a good reason to smile.

“Yeah,” he said, when asked if it’s likely we’ll see a PC version somewhere down the line. “There’s no reason not to.”

The exec, speaking to VG247 at a London event last week, added that his previous experience at Total War developer Creative Assembly meant the voice-controlled RTS was very much rooted in PC strategy gaming.

“The stuff I worked on previously was Total War, which are PC games,” he said. “In many ways, gameplay-wise, it’s a modern warfare, Tom Clancy version of Total War.”

The game will be released for Xbox 360 and PS3 on November 7. We’ll have more from Michael throughout this week.

Michael de Plater of Ubisoft explains why him and UbiSoft are waiting on deciding to release a PC version of EndWar at a later date.
Take a guess?
Yep, PIRACY concerns.

Piracy is Keeping EndWar off the PC, says UbiSoft

Oct 08, 2008 at 5:20 AM - Gary McLean - 29 Comments
Michael de Plater of Ubisoft tells Videogaming247 the reason that Tom Clancy's EndWar isn't coming out for the PC on the same day as the console versions is because of concerns about piracy:

“To be honest, if PC wasn’t pirated to hell and back, there’d probably be a PC version coming out the same day as the other two,” he said, talking of the voice-controlled RTS.

“But at the moment, if you release the PC version, essentially what you’re doing is letting people have a free version that they rip off instead of a purchased version. Piracy’s basically killing PC.”

We asked if piracy was the main reason to keep EndWar off PC.

“Yeah, at the time of release,” he said. “You know, the level of piracy that you get with the PC just cannibalizes the others, because people just steal that version.”

De Plater also told us that a PC version is likely to be released further down the line, as reported yesterday.

Tom Clancy’s EndWar does appear to be very good, from what we played of it. Looks as though you’re not going to be leeching a PC version for a while yet, though. You know who you are.
