Bernie Mac, R.I.P.
« on: Saturday, August 09, 2008, 10:02:16 AM »
Don't know if you all heard or read it yet, but comedian/actor Bernie Mac died at 50 years old this morning.

Damn, man...

I liked him in Guess Who, Mr. 3000, Head of State, The last two Ocean's flicks, and of course Bad Santa.

And yeah, I did like The Kings Of Comedy stand-up, too.
He was pretty funny back when Def Comedy Jam HBO had its hey-day in the 90's, too.

Jeez, that sucks.  He was young.  I wonder what happened?

He was being treated for pneumonia, last week.

The odd thing was earlier this week, it was all over the papers that Mac was doing fine and going to recover just fine.

Yeah, I read that... but I mean, people generally don't just up and die of pneumonia.  Sure, it can happen, but my 80 year old grandmother survived it just fine on several occasions.  It doesn't seem logical that a 50 year old wouldn't be able to beat it, unless there was some sort of complication.  That's what I'm wondering about.

He died of complications due to some kind of inflammatory lung disease other than pneumonia that the doctors had thought went into remission years ago.

It really sucks that he died as he like George Carlin was another great comedian.

RIP to him.

Any time someone younger than me dies from natural causes, I get a slight chill in the pit of my stomach.  Jim Henson died of what basically was a bad cold at a similar age.  He was a workaholic and ignored his condition too long.  This sounds like something more intrinsically serious, though, if equally tragic at such a young age.

It's funny how millions younger than us die on a regular basis and yet one or two always bring us back to reality. I thought the same thing when I heard that he died - "Wow, he was young."

It's almost like we move death to the back of the subconscious in industrialized nations. No need to worry about death when there are bills to pay.

It makes sense, I suppose. No need to worry about something that probably won't happen. But it just seems like an escape from the primal evolutionary trait that brought us here.
