However, the new pad is "a limited edition promotional item that is only available in Europe, Asia and Latin America while supplies last"

So, let's see...

They make a new 360-pad that fixes the D-Pad for the 360...
...but only release it outside of the US in a very limited amount?

WTF are they thinking?!?!?!  :o

Bring that pad EVERYWHERE.
Yes, even GFW!

If they spent the time and the bucks to improve the mechanism and take it to production, it will filter through to the rest of the controllers.  Anything else makes no sense, even to Microsoft.

I cant say I care since I dont play any games that really require that much precision out of it, so I dont represent the audience that does. What are the games that specifically need use out of the D-pad again?

Fighting games.  Street Fighter 4 is going to be pretty awkward on the 360 with the current D-pad.

You know, I've got to say I never really had a problem with the 360's D-pad.  Granted, I've read all about it and see how the design is inferior to the past (correct?) designs but I've never really ever noticed myself frustrated at the pad.

I don't have a 360 and don't come into much contact with any, so I am quite ignorant about the controller; what is the problem with the current D-pad?

SF4 should be played with a stick.

Yowza! It sounds like M$ really fubar'd the 360 controller. Kinda makes me glad I went for a PS3. The D-pad on the PS3 controller is actually a vast improvement over its predecessors.

LOL. No.

Haha that made me chuckle :D It's true, it's just not the same. It also made me think of Cobra :P

They really fubar'd the *D-pad* on the controller.  The rest of is still my personal favorite, with the Sony DS2 following, because I prefer the flipped positions of the left stick and D-pad, plus the sweet analog triggers on the 360 pad.  I have no experience with with the DS3 pad, so if I ever get one, all that may change.  It would depend on any perceived improvements offsetting pain in my thumb joint again (from having to reach low all the time for the left stick).  I'm less confident that the sixaxis would change my mind.

The shape is still the same but it does have a few subtle changes. The triggers (R2 & L2) on the DS3 are changed compared to the DS2, they're pretty good for throttle too (kinda like the 360). It's a lot lighter than before too. The stick and d-pad positions are still the same though.

I've seen some controllers with interchangeable left stick and d-pad! You can actually swap them up! You guys seen these?
