What do you think of music used for torture?
« on: Friday, December 12, 2008, 03:14:33 AM »
Ive heard of it being done before for detained Iraqis. There was a recent story of US military using music like NIN to torture prisoners. Musicians are pissed that music is used for this purpose.

For me, of course I could call some music that Ive listened to torture because of how bad it is, but im not forced to listen it. I think its wrong, sure you can call some music shitty, but when its used from a completely negative approach I think its crossing the line.

This is America.  We don't torture in America.  Evil individuals who happen to be American may torture, or sign executive orders to allow torture.  It runs contrary to our principles.

Any form of torture.

Captain America is dead.

And Cobra is right. We don't torture. We forcibly interrogate. Oh, wait - scratch that. We use "enhanced interrogation techniques". It's much better sounding than torture.

Music used for torture.. That's plausible.. I was convinced my sister was torturing me when she left her Celine Dion on loop blasting in her locked room.

It's the same idea as water-drop sound effect torture.

Music, like everything else, is an instrument which can be put to any use depending on who uses it.

It's a shame that people resort to using whatever is at their disposal to torture others.

Its that Celine Dion song. Whenever someone mentions her name the song starts playing in my head. It stops when I stick the screwdriver in my ear though.

She needs to learn to hit those notes without screaming.  That is torture.

I don't know, but if myself was being tortured with listening to Tom Morello; Rage; Nine Inch Nails; Metallica; Dr. Dre; and Eminem for numerous hours straight, that wouldn't be torture for me.

*shrug*

Yeah, I know -- that kind of music ain't for everybody.
