Hell, Freespace 2 is worth more than that by itself.

I might have to get the Freespace bundle...

There are too many good deals out there right now, and it's hard for me to pass them all up. Argh.

Since it probably wouldn't be Interplay, who would you like to see develop it?

I think Microsoft Game Studios did a decent job with Freelancer, so I can see them handling a Freespace game quite well. That said, I'd love to see Egosoft's take on it; they did a phenomenal job with the X series.

Digital Anvil made Freelancer -- who were owned by MS. I know Anvil closed and all -- but, did Microsoft take in some of those guys into Microsoft Game Studios? If so, that'd be a decent pick.

Yeah, Freelancer was fantastic. VERY underrated.

X3: Reunion rocks. I do need to pick up X3: Terran Conflict, sometime...

Actually, I think Steam is the only place that has it here in the USA....and it has that Tages install limit on it, too.

X3: Terran Conflict hit UK Retail stores on DVD, right?

I think it's out on DVD in the UK, it hasn't been brought over to the Middle East though. I might be able to special order it through one of the private shops.

I haven't even played X3 yet but I'm gonna find a way to get my hands on either it or Terran Conflict.

I think I would be homicidal if Freespace turned out like Freelancer.

Anywho, anyone who buys or feels like playing Freespace, make sure to check out the newest builds of the source code project. It looks downright amazing. They've gone and updated most of the models to a very high standard and jacked up all sorts of special effects. Plus, they've also ported the original game to the updated engine, which also makes that far more playable. Even more awesome, there's a really nice installer program that lets you choose all the updates you want including several new user made campaigns, some of which are supposed to be pretty good. I can't confirm that, and really don't have a desire to, but the option is at least there.

Doesn't the open source project break the videos though, since they are copyrighted?  I seem to remember that.

Yeah, there was some sort of legal issue, but that's been resolved as well. The solution was to reencode the videos into OGG files. I don't know how that gets around copyright issues, but they're in there now. Just make sure to select the option to download the cutscenes in the downloader.

I believe the problem was the codec the videos were encoded in. It wasn't open, and they couldn't release a decoder under the open source license. So they had to use something else and re-encode the videos to get around the problem.

Most of those Egosoft X games are on sale through Steam, currently -- might wanna check the thread, if you don't mind putting up with the Steam DRM.
