Que asked me to make a banner for the L4D server hes running. I had a ton of fun building it, and I thought I'd share it with those that might not get to see it otherwise.

This is the default banner if you don't have a custom one:


This is what I made:


Interesting note, the green background in my image I made by taking a picture of the trim around the kitchen sink, since its the only thing I could find with a "scratched up brushed metal" look. Then a multiply layer over it to make it green....tada.

It's bloody brilliant is what it is.

I haven't tested it yet, but the banner should also scale to any res and hopefully still look cool.  I'm still working on the MOTD page for the thing.  It's nice that such flexibility is allowed, but I suck at making web-things look like... not shit.

For a guy who didn't know jack shit about CSS this morning, this was quite a feat of development, let me tell you.  We're talking many multiple hours.  But it resizes dynamically!  And... and it has transparency!

EDIT - And I just now found out that the game's browser doesn't fucking support transparency.  FUCK.  I'm going to kill myself now.

Hey Idol, what fonts did you use? Or did you just take random similar looking fonts, and use a erase brush to create some effects?

Anyway, I really like it.

The font is called "Future Rot" which is the same font Valve uses. It has some of the wear and tear built in, but I added some extra (as did Valve in their logo).

heh, yeah I just googled that exact phrase. Turns out 99% of the time someone knows the name of the font.

Oh shit... was I logged into "Pugnate" when I said that.

To be honest, the problem is my eyes. I mostly skim through posts these days because for some reason my eyes ache while reading text on the comp. It has been like this for ages, and I've been to the doctor and he says my eyes are fine.

OK I put my anti glares on, and everything looks much better in terms of glare. Unfortunately it makes everything look really weird because they have .25 power and it makes the screen look slightly skewed in one direction.

Plus, he does like to mess with my avatars and modify them into his own.
