A sad story.
« on: Sunday, January 25, 2009, 12:12:29 AM »
I'll keep it short. While I did have my male cat neutered, I didn't have it done in time for my female cat to not get pregnant again. But before I go on, I have to mention that my sister --who is doing her medical degree -- left on vacation, so I am here alone, which is why I was unable to immediately notice that my cat had given birth in the corner of the guest bedroom. Well, when I eventually found out, I noticed that one of the newborn kittens was screaming at the top of her lungs. I didn't think too much of it, and now wish that I had at the time. I was actually distracted because one of the five newborns was lying lifeless. It was a bit frightening to use the cat's poop scooper to pick her up, and dispose of her.  ::)

Anyway, the next morning I came in, and the kitten was still going through moments of sporadic screaming. So I had a closer look, and saw that both her legs were purple and were tied in what seemed like a weird mesh of flesh. I was pretty concerned -- obviously -- and didn't know what to do (the vet wouldn't open for another six hours). Fortunately, the maid had come in at around that time. She had one look, and immediately told me that the placenta and umbilical cord were roped around her feet. She told me that we needed to cut it immediately, which we did. But with both legs freed, the kitten continued to scream.

So I went out for a bit, and came back, and the kitten was still screaming, and her legs were still purple. :(

I took her to the vets a few hours later, who said she had gangrene, and that there was little that could be done. :(

I felt really sad and teared up in the car on the way back. The kitten was the biggest of her siblings, and I had grown attached to her during her last hours while I had tried to comfort her. I felt a bit angry at myself, as well as at my cat, who should have taken care of this herself.

On the way home, I decided I needed a nice action packed movie, to distract myself, so I bought I am Legend, which was a mistake. :P

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.... what have you guys been doing? :P

Aw, that's sad.  It's never fun to have to go through that kind of thing with a little animal.

Me, I am trying not to be sad for once in my bloody life.  I am making dwarf music.

I was making dwarf art, but your story has killed all my enthusiasm for the day. I've had my fare share of similar stories, and was was reminded of...all of them.

Hehe sorry. :P

What's this dwarf project? I assume this is about the mythical fantasy dwarfs, and not real life ones, who curse their lives each day for being so short.

February we (Que and I, and everyone else is invited) are going to focus our game time on Dwarf Fortress. I'm spiffing up a custom tileset for it, and Que is going to make some epic background music.

Giotti's Castle theme from Final Fantasy IV has to be included in the mix.

Is ithat being made under your musical stage name of Khelgar Ironfist?

(I expect only Pug or Xessive to catch the Khelgar reference here...)

Sorry to hear about that, Pug. My roommates boyfriend found a litter of kittens in the woods one day that were left for dead. They were starving and most had diseases. It was pretty sad. He ended up saving a few of them but the rest died. It's even more sad because kittens are so cute. Hard to imagine someone doing something like that.

But it's the circle of life....[lion king music]

Well, I'm actually writing the music.  So probably not.  Because that would be plagiarism.

Man. that was a sad story. That's the first accurate, non-pun title you've used. Now I'm sad especially because I have to take my cat to the vet since he hasn't been eating properly. He's lost a lot of weight quickly.

Surely I've used other accurate titles before. :P

Yea, if I wasn't clear in my original post, the vet had to put her down. :(

It is complete.  Experience... The Dwarfening.  9 minutes of Epic Dwarfness.

It seemed relevant to post here.  So... yeah.

So, what do you do in that situation?  Put the kitten down?
