Steam help.
« on: Monday, February 23, 2009, 12:23:57 PM »
Go to www.steampowered.com on internet explorer...

Do you see the flash thing in the top center or are you getting the following message?

You will need to Install the latest Flash plugin to view this page properly.

It really is fucking pissing me off. It has been happening for the past few days and I've tried everything. On Firefox I get a different error, where it simply says undefined.

I tried all the usual crap, like uninstalling, reinstalling flash numerous times, etc.

Any ideas?

I have no problem in FF.  Haven't tried Explorer.

Quick generic suggestion: clear your browser's cache/cookies.

Dammit, what the hell is wrong with these people? I decided to search the forums, and it wouldn't let me login. I kept trying like a madman when I finally gave up an decided to just enter the random verification code thing. Unfortunately I got the code wrong a dozen times because it was poorly visible. When I finally did a search, I noticed a few other people seemed to be having the same issue, but I couldn't reply to the thread, because it wouldn't let me login.

I connected to my Steam client, to see if I was taking crazy pills and entering the wrong password, but I wasn't!

That's when I realized that I had to REGISTER for the forums separately, which I found quite stupid. Anyway I registered (this was an hour ago), but I still couldn't post, because my forum account wasn't approved. As of this moment, it still hasn't been approved.

Next, I thought I might as well mail tech support, when it asked me to login. Again, it wouldn't let me login. Again, it needed another registration. Again I await approval.

What the hell is this? Why isn't all of this done automatically for one login?

I will try, but I think this is something else, since neither browser is working.

edit 2:

Doesn't help. This isn't even a big deal, but it just upsets me that it isn't working. :P

I did get the "undefined" thing in Explorer.  But I have basically abandoned Explorer, so problems there don't really mean anything.  I don't trust it at all, so I have it set up so restricted that it has to ask me if I want to allow ActiveX every time.  For some reason, it's crashing now when I say yes at the MSN page.  Haha!

That really is ridiculous to require all those separate registrations and logins in a single site.  Contrast that with Windows Live ID.  I have about 4 tabs open to *different* sites that require it.  All I have to do is login to one of them, then refresh the others.
