Topic: Financial software.

Just curious if any of you know any good accounting software.  Just looking for something simple to help me build a budget, balance the checkbook, all that.  I've never used anything before but I'm starting to get sick of the way I'm doing it now with a spreadsheet.  Just wondering if anybody had any suggestions.  Thanks!

Well, there's the Microsoft flavour: Microsoft Money. Though I've yet to hear any non-Microsoft endorsed recommendations.

From a few friends of mine I've heard good things about Quicken. Apparently it's straightforward and gets the job done.

There's a small business accounting app called Quickbooks as well, but I think it's relatively more complex.

I remember reading somewhere that Quicken software had spyware on it or malware or something like that.

In 2002, Intuit (who makes Quicken and TurboTax, among other things) put in C-DILLA/Safecast IP protection in their software.  This software is truly malware.  Due to customer response, Intuit no longer uses it.  If they use something else, I'm not aware of it.

There is also gnucash, but I'm not sure if there is a Windows port.
