Warehouse to warehouse, or what my week is going to be
« on: Thursday, October 19, 2006, 09:36:52 PM »
A fried of ours let us use some space in his warehouse for free to store some systems we had. Now...he doesn't want us there. At least not free. We offered to pay some money, but he wanted more. We're taking up very little room compared to what he wants us to pay...so we're just going to move the stuff out and rent a little place for ourselves.

So we have to drive an hour down there, load up what we can and drive it an hour back. Wee. We also have 3 whole systems we need to tear apart. We are keeping parts off them, but not the entire system. The dock on this warehouse is so fucked up we'd never get them out in once piece anyway. We'll take the electronics off and just leave the hulls on the dock and the scrap dealer comes by and take em. They get a couple hundred bucks for the steel and aluminum in them, but its just not worth it for us to rent a truck and move them ourselves.

So..yeah. This is gonna suck. I hate moving these things, and taking them appart is so damn time consuming. Mainly because dad seems to want to keep everything on them anyway. Le sigh.

Oh well, at least he gave it to you for a while I guess. He probably needs the whole warehouse for something, and was trying to get you out without asking directly or something. People are weird.

So take some pics of the trip. :P And the warehouse. :P

What are these "systems" again?  MRI machines or something?  I forget.

They are gamma cameras. The ones we have are all made by a company called Picker. We have two 1000 systems, and a 3000 system.

What is the market like for those? I can't imagine that it's too big.

No one buys entire systems, at least not from us. The parts, though, are always needed. Some of these systems are going on 15 years old. Things wear out and break, but brand new systems for hospitals are super expensive so they want what they have repaired. Also due to the age, some of these systems and parts arent made anymore, you have to salvage stuff from other systems.

So..yeah. Lots of big hospitals still have these in chicago. Stroger, Childrens Memorial...several others. Er...scratch Childrens. They just had their systems removed last month.

Ah, ok, that makes sense. I was wondering what the demand was for these systems, and when that would taper off and the business would

Edit: didnt finish there-

and the business would decline. I guess replacements would stimulate the market in that way.

Well, we plan to get out of this buissness soon anyway...so we arent too concerned with the shelf life of these things.
