The 79th Academy Awards
« on: Monday, February 26, 2007, 01:29:22 PM »
I normally don't care about these award shows, but this year, the nominations were more diverse and the show ended up being quite interesting.

I was really glad that Pan's Labyrinth was the second biggest winner of the night.  It's a shame it wasn't nominated for more awards, but I was really glad that it did win 3 of the 6 it was nominated for.

I was very pissed off though that Pan's Labyrinth didn't win best foreign language film.  The German film, "The Lives of Others", won it and I hear that's pretty good as well, but the actress announcing the winner paused as well, and sounded disappointed when she announced it.

Pan's Labyrinth also won Best Cinematography, and I honestly thought Children of Men deserved that award more than Pan's Labyrinth.  Children of Men had several scenes that were done in one take!  It was just phenomenal camera work.

Another disappointment was when they announced the winner to best adapted screenplay (The Departed), but they referred to Infernal Affairs as a Japanese film, I was like WTF.

Forest Whitaker won for his role in The Last King of Scotland, and his acceptance speech was amazing.  The best acceptance speech of the night, and had the other leading actors' nominees in tears.

Martin Scorcese got a standing ovation for his win as best director for The Departed...

and The Departed won best picture.

I'm just glad Little Miss Sunshine didn't win Best Picture, what a shitty movie.

I'm still pissed that I didn't get to see The Departed.  Julia started feeling nasty and the movie was just sort of too much for her at the time, so we ended up just leaving and going home.  The first bit of what I saw didn't seem that amazing, so I can only assume the rest of the movie was great, but I guess I won't know until Netflix.

Good to hear Pan's got a lot of good stuff.  That was quite the movie.

But they all look the same!!

I'm a bit disappointed to hear that Pan didn't win best foreign language film. This German movie would probably have to suck my dick to make me think it was any better.  Then again, these kind of things don't really mean anything anyways.

I was so happy that The Departed and Uncle Marty one. I loved the movie and I love him. I am really sad that Pan didn't take home the Foreign Lang. film award. How pathetic.
