Canceled game info -> Legacy of Kain: The Dark Prophecy (Blood Omen 3)
« on: Monday, July 26, 2010, 07:12:42 AM »
I thought some of the Kain fans - such as Que - might find this interesting.

A NeoGAF user has went through the process of finding a ton of info on Legacy Of Kain: The Dark Prophecy (AKA Blood Omen 3), which was canceled LONG AGO - through Google and extensive searching.

So check it ALL out here - info, media, screens, art, etc.

Ritual Entertainment (RIP) was developing this one back then before they went under, actually.

Dunno' if I can be sad about that or not... after what Blood Omen 2 was, maybe it was better to just let it die.  I dunno'.  But Ritual did some pretty cool stuff.

I still have to someday play Defiance, even.  Meh.  Maybe someday.

I have Defiance (PC) - didn't get very far into it.

Que - would a certain developer making a new Kain get you excited about the series again? Is there any particular developer you think could make a worthwhile new Kain game?

So sad.  The first game was amazing, and I so wanted to see it grow into an amazing franchise.  How could they have blown it so badly thereafter?

Hmm, that looks almost exactly like LoK: Defiance which was definitely more action-oriented.

I'd like to see a 3rd Blood Omen game but it needs to be done right.

Wow I am way out of the loop.  I thought Blood Omen and Soul Reaver were the only games in the LoK universe.

Actually, I was thinking Soul Reaver.  That game really pushed the bar higher, and absolutely floored me.

I'm on my phone and haven't chexked the link out yet, but I have run across a little info on this before.  Not much, but something.  I'm hoping for more here.

As for the series; I have played every game to completion and can testify that Blood Omen 2 is the black sheep of the Kain universe; nothing should be judged off of it.  SR2 was just as good if not better than the first and Defiance was likewise enjoyable.  I do remember Defiance having some small problems with the gameplay mechanics, but the plot and writing was every bit as good as the previous games.   BO2, on the other hand, seemed like it was written on the back of a napkin at an all night diner.  It may have started as a decent concept, but in the end was executed horribly.  If you liked the first two or three games you need to skip BO2 and play Defiance....you won't even be missing anything.

Honestly, it has been one of the most engrossing and intricate series of games I've come across (from a narrative perspective) and it's a huge shame that it has been left by the wayside.
