Painkiller: Resurrection
« on: Thursday, April 09, 2009, 08:38:29 PM »
IGN's got a preview on JoWood's next Painkiller installment, PK: Resurrection.
Homegrown Games is working on this installment.
Planned for Q4 2009.

Single Player
Quote
The player takes on the role of Wild Bill Sherman, a CIA assassin who works for highly placed members of the government. Though he can claim to be doing some good in the world by ridding it of weapon smugglers and drug lords, his missions to assassinate his employers' political rivals are a bit less morally ambiguous and even a killer-for-hire has to have some principles.

...

Of course, anyone who's at all familiar with the series knows that Wild Bill has landed squarely in the middle of Purgatory, the realm in between Heaven and Hell where souls await judgment. Each game in the series has put the player at the forefront of a war against the forces of Hell, and Painkiller: Resurrection is no exception. The big difference here is that the player is going to be tossed back and forth as part of a larger war between the heavenly and hellish factions. Bill will find both groups desire his services but as every Painkiller fan knows, there's only one way this fight can end, and that's with Wild Bill standing on the top of a very large pile of bodies.

There's more to this story, obviously, but saying any more would spoil some of the twists and turns that Homegrown Games has in store. Much of the story plays out in cutscenes centered around some of the game's more climactic moments, but players who really want to dig into the story will be able to uncover even more of the narrative in the small artifacts, documents and voiceovers that can be found throughout the game.

Multiplayer
Quote
Naturally, the single player experience is only half of the appeal of the Painkiller series. The original game was selected as the 2005 shooter for the Cyberathlete's Professional League and benefited tremendously from the PK++ mod developed by Dr. Steven Wilkins (known as "blowfish" to the Painkiller community). The new mod added a number of enhanced features to the game, including competition friendly elements like spectator mode and bots. Fortunately, all of those improvements are being included in Painkiller: Resurrection right out of the box.

Perhaps the best thing about multiplayer, however, is that the game will, for the first time in the series' history, feature an entirely cooperative campaign. Players will now be able to fight their way through Purgatory with a friend by their side. (Although if it's anything like our Left 4 Dead matches around the office, most of the time your friends are going to be shooting you in the face and laughing as you writhe in the grip of some unholy creature's freakishly long tongue.)

I still dont have Overdose. I need to get moving.

Wonder how different this is going to be compared to the first. Totally different devs and engine, I imagine.

Improved version of the same engine as the original PK, for both Overdose and Resurrection -- neither games which are made by PCF.

Remember, Epic bought out PCF (People Can Fly).
PCF is working on an unknown project.
