New Super Mario Bros. Wii
« on: Friday, November 13, 2009, 03:16:07 AM »
I didn't see a thread dedicated to this, so I made one.

GiantBomb has a quick look here.

I haven't like Mario games much since they moved on to 3D. NSMB DS didn't seem bad, but it somehow felt like it was missing something. (I gave it about 30 minutes I think, on my brother's DS) This one looks like what I've been missing since the release of the N64 though. My brother is getting it Sunday and I can't wait to try it out. I did sort of want to play coop with him, but it doesn't seem worth the $40 it would cost to buy a remote. (my brother only has one)

That video is spoiler central.  I watched a few minutes, but I'm skipping the rest.  This is one game I may end up getting.

I was thinking about picking it up, but I can't decide yet.

Edit:

IGN has the review up

They gave it an 8.9, saying that it is a good game, but no online play and it doesn't feel like a step forward for the series.

Gamespot gives it 8.5

I'm usually pretty sensitive to the idea of letting people know about spoilers, but for some reason it didn't even come to mind with this game.

After watching that quick look I'm almost willing to pay the $40 for a remote to play coop.

What could you possibly spoil in a Mario game?  Does Bowser finally consummate his love with Peach?

It spoils a lot of the things that are fun to discover on your own, even if they're not hard to discover.  Watch the video (if you don't care about the spoilage) and you'll see exactly what I mean.

No, I'll take your word for it.  I could end up getting the game at some point, so I won't watch, it just struck me as odd that something in a Mario game could really be spoilery.  But that's good that there are fun surprises worth discovering on your own.

WAGGLE?!  Fuck, I'm glad I didn't buy a Wii now.  Total shame, because otherwise I'd love this game.
