So a lot of the podcasts this passed week were christmas themed and a couple of them had discussions of what their favorite christmas memories were. I thought I'd bring that here, so what is yours?
I've been fortunate enough to be blessed with awesome parents, they knew how much my brothers and I loved games. I want to say the christmas we got the SNES was the one, but there's another I remembered that topped that. It was 1996, and during that year my older brother had gotten a compaq computer, the first real computer we had ever owned. It remained in his room so we could only bask in its glory when he was away with one of his friends. My brother played the very first and original Command & Conquer, while I spent my time beating Dark Forces over and over again or Doom 2. We totally abandoned our SNES after that as it felt like there was nothing better. At around the time of christmas, I think I had an idea that my dad was getting another computer for me and my little brother to share, but when the day finally hit us I had never expected to get a computer for each of us. The thing was my uncle who owned a computer shop at the time, was able to get a bargain with those machines, though I still admit we were spoiled. They were intel 486's and neither of us couldn't be anymore excited, we even each got a game to pick out at the closes Media Play when those were still around. I had picked out Lucasarts Archive Vol II, which was the Star Wars collection, and my brother got C&C: Red Alert. My brother and I become mindless slaves to those machines, hour upon hour of Tie Fighter I played. Good times.
