I need some grunge...
« on: Sunday, December 20, 2009, 06:05:31 PM »
For some reason Ive been listening to some 90's grunge. No idea why.

Been listening to Alice In Chains, Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden.

I need some other stuff. Does anyone make this stuff anymore? Anybody listen to it?

You left Pearl Jam and Candlebox off your list, although Candlebox was a pretty soft grunge band.  I'm not aware of any new grunge music.  Shinedown kind of reminds me of Soundgarden from their Superunknown days?

Candlebox I remember being okay. I actually like Perl Jam's new stuff over the old. never heard of Shinedown.

Man, I haven't listened to any of that stuff since like... 1998 or so.  I can still get behind some of it.  But yeah, I don't know of anyone that's doing that kind of stuff now, but I don't really listen to it much these days, so I wouldn't be the person to ask.  Best of luck!  There's got to be somebody still doing it somewhere.

Well Nirvana is an obvious one but I never got into them. The only grunge band I really got into was Stone Temple Pilots, their first album, Core. You can also give Velvet Revolver a shot which has the STP singer and Slash from Guns N Roses, haven't heard too much but they seemed alright.

Also don't listen to Shinedown, they are fucking awful.

Yeah. I listened to some Shinedown yesterday. It was bad.

I really only like one nirvana song, and that's "I want to die". No idea how I forgot about STP. I'll check out some Velvet Revolver.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Haha.  I never said Shinedown was good, it just the closest thing I could think of that was a modern band that had sort of a grunge sound.

Above by Mad Season was my favourite grunge album. Mad Season is a supergroup including individuals from Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Screaming Trees. It's really blues inspired but definitely grunge.

Speaking of which, get some Screaming Trees. Sweet Oblivion is their best cd with Dust at a close second.

Tad and Skin Yard were also pretty good and are a bit closer to the metal end of grunge.

Jerry Cantrell (the creative force behind Alice in Chains) solo albums are worth checking out as well.
