Hellgate: Tokyo coming from Hanbit in 2010.
« on: Thursday, December 03, 2009, 03:20:39 PM »
Hellgate: Tokyo is coming from Hanbit in 2010 - planned currently for Asian territories only.

I bet they still need to work-out things w/ Namco for US Distribution rights and all of that jazz, if they want to bring it here and all of that.

Anyways, here's a small trailer for it.

Jeez, it's coming in March of next year and that's all the trailer had to it?

Yea the only reason this is getting any attention in the western world is because of the familiarity with the franchise.

Hanbit probably bought this as an investment to use with the high successful Asian 'pay for items' business model.

Hanbit hammered out a deal w/ Namco.
Hanbit now has also NA and Euro publishing rights to HGL.
So, they've got worldwide rights to HGL.

HGL has been renamed to Hellgate: Resurrection.
So, expect Hellgate: Resurrection to re-surface this year in 2010.

Quote
Flagship's ill-fated post-Apocalyptic MMORPG Hellgate: London will relaunch in North America, HanbitSoft announced today after securing the worldwide publishing rights.

The publisher picked up the rights from the action RPG's North American and European publisher Namco Bandai, who had continued running Hellgate's servers for several months after Flagship's demise but ultimately shut them down in February, 2009.

HanbitSoft has continued to develop and operate Hellgate: London in South Korea and recently launched a revamped version with a free-to-play option under the name of Hellgate: Resurrection. The publisher says this will be rolled out this year, "starting with China, Taiwan, and South East Asia followed by North America, Europe, and Japan."

Flagship's other MMORPG 'Mythos'--which was only ever playable in closed beta--is also slated for a US release courtesy of Hanbitsoft's fellow T3 Entertainment subsidiary Redbana, who are planning to make the fantasy action RPG free-to-play.

Huh.  The most interesting and potentially troubling news is that Mythos is still around.  Given what the Torchlight devs are trying to do, this could be a big problem for them.

I'd be curious to find out Torchlight's sales numbers on Steam - I'm betting during the Steam sale, when it was $10 during X-Mas sale and especially $5 during some of the One Day Sales - it must've went thru the roof.
