King Arthur: the Roleplaying Wargame
« on: Monday, December 14, 2009, 02:10:35 PM »
Here's a Quick Look from GiantBomb, though I wouldn't bother watching it.  This rather demonstrates why I can't fully get behind GB.  I like a lot of what they're doing, but then... stuff like that QL is useless.  There's practically no info, they have no idea what they're doing, they don't really show off the game at all or give you any useful insights, it's basically just 20 minutes of stupid jokes set to watching a guy stumble his way through the tutorial, and then all the comments to the video are GB in-jokes and "duder hahahaha".  Fucking annoying.  Why even post that shit?

Thankfully the game's official site has a good bit to offer, and there are 3 developer diaries that give you a great look at the game.  If you download the HD versions you can really appreciate the detail.

Neocore has made 2 games I know of prior to this one, both strategy wargames in medieval settings, and it would actually be pretty hard to tell which one you were looking at at first glance.  This one looks *really* nice graphically, though, and has all the roleplaying stuff that I think the others lacked (they were more just Total War-style games), plus some fantasy elements like magic and such.

It's only on Steam right now, but it looks like they're planning to make it available on Impulse and Gamersgate "soon", and looks like a retail release is planned for February.

Just from the screenies you posted, it reminds me of Disciples. Not from the art style, but just the look of the engine.

That looks pretty cool, but I didn't heed your warning and I checked out the Giant Bomb thing. It's a pretty horrible site for information on games - really only good if you're into the personalities of the people who work there.

Yeah, that's pretty much true.  Their Quick Look made the game look terribly boring.  I picked it up from the Magical Underworld Store (will pick it up retail hopefully in Feb., if it hits the US too) and have been having a great time with it after several hours.  It's really quite addictive and pretty deep.  There's a lot there, and the tactics seem pretty damned good for a rock-paper-scissors type affair.

He's 100% right though - it's horrible.  Like, if you're going to have a personality based site at least make sure you have some good personalities.  I don't know why they even bother with previews like this.

And you can tell from the comments section that people are there to find something to read while they get stoned.

I think you should write them a letter or something. I am positive they will respond.

What I want to do is have them give me a job and let me tell them what they're doing wrong.  But that's mostly because I'm desperate to get away from my job.
