Quote
Windows Vista "Gone Gold"
November 08, 2006 - It looks like the dawn of DirectX 10 is almost upon us:

Microsoft announced today that Windows Vista has been released to manufacturing. Vista will mark the first big shift in Microsoft consumer operating systems in over 5 years.

With Vista, Microsoft promises increased security with an improved firewall and Windows Defender and User Account Control. Other fresh additions include integrated desktop search, Internet Explorer 7.0, Windows Sidebar, Windows Sideshow, built-in system diagnostics, improved gaming support, fully integrated Speech Recognition as well as support for Windows SuperFetch, Windows ReadyBoost and Windows ReadyDrive.

Four flavors are available that range from $99.95 to a whopping $399.

Consumers will be able to buy it on January 30th.

It's RTM.

If you have an MSDN subscription you can get it already.

RTM?  MSDN?

I don't know, I'm not too pumped.  Yeah, I'd kind of like a gui update and the like, but it seems like a lot of work to go through for just Aero Glass and the cool blurred glass effect.  Apart from that (or including that if you consider the requirements and price) it seems kind of like a bust.

AWESOME!!!!

I can't wait to spend my $400 -- because spending any less would get me something on par with XP -- and getting my new Win VISTA! Too bad the novelty of the aero glass feature will wear off after a while, and oh according to all benchmarks I will see a 20% drop in gaming performance. But awesome...

Haha!  A man after my own heart.  I hope this shit crashes and burns.  Knowing MS's history and people's bleating sheepness, I suspect not.  All I can say is that if everyone needs to suck 900 watts out of their wall to run their Windows GUIs next year, it won't be any thanks to me.

I'm going to do everything in my power to avoid it.  As a PC gamer, that's going to be difficult, and I continue to wonder if they aren't doing this so as to literally sabotage the PC gaming community and drive people over to the 360.  It wouldn't surprise me a bit.  They'll make money off the OS just because people are idiots and they're charging so much money for it, and they'll make money off the rush of people moving to the 360 to avoid the bullshit that Vista is as it stands now.  Unless something changes, I see no reason other than to be very unscrupulous when it comes to all this.  I'm not pulling any punches.  They're fucking me over and I'm not having any of it.

I'll finish all of my Win XP games first and see loads of Vista ONLY games out before I make a move over.

Which'll probably be way down the line, sometime....when I need another PC.....

My current PC right now is making me very happy.
