Dead DropsOne of those cute and interesting ideas that will end up going nowhere. Its basically this:
A thumb drive cemented in a wall somewhere publicly accessible. The idea being anyone can come by, add files, leave files, and just see whats there. Would be a fun experiment except for two things: some dick will put a virus on it and who carries a laptop around to hook into it?
Now, if there was a way for people to hook up their phone or ipod or whatever to it, then it might be more interesting. Something people carry around with them anyway. I thought a simple wireless node that doesn't connect to the internet but just behaves as a file store would work. Just have a little discreet logo you paint on a wall so people know its there. The problem of course is it requires someone to run it, it requires power, where this dead drop just has to sit there until the media fails or the plug rusts.
A fun idea/experiment at any rate.
