Apple are idiots
« on: Sunday, January 02, 2011, 08:41:06 AM »
Another iPhone alarm bug.  Alarms set for yesterday and today did not go off.  This follows an alarm bug that followed daylight savings time, one that they never seemed to fix as not all countries and regions do DST on the same date and the problem continued to occur as every region switched time.

I do not understand how Apple maintains a reputation of not having issues with their software or products.  My MacBook Pro "BSODs" (shows a black window asking me to hold in the power button) at least once every two months.  Meanwhile, my Windows 7 desktop PC has never BSOD'd.

This might not seem like a big deal to some people, but it can cause major issues in a person's life. That's why I always have two alarms set to go off. :)

Steve Jobs isn't losing any sleep over this.

Because his alarm didn't go off.

Ha!  Yes it is.

Yesterday, this Toshiba player with a built-in Netflix app would not update the Netflix instant queue.  It was fine on the PC, but not on the player.  I discovered a workaround:  If I started playing the movie on the PC, then stopped it, it would go into the "Recently Watched" list, which did get updated on the player.  It could then be selected there and watched on the TV.  Today, all seems to be well again.

Gotta love New Year's glitches and overworked programmers.

As much as I like and respect Apple for continually questioning the status quo this kind of news is mind-boggling to me. I have no idea how programming works but cell phones and alarm clocks have been around for a long time and this doesn't seem like it would be the hardest thing in the world to get right.

Smartphones let you do a lot of cool things and I expect bugs in new technology here and there but making phone calls and setting an alarm are two of the most basic features you expect in any phone and somehow the iPhone 4 made a mess of both.

Haha, that's pretty funny. I think this can be traced to the fact that a lot of Apple's smaller apps and features are often programmed by a single person so I guess not all edge cases were tested for.

You should definitely get it checked out then. Kernel Panics can be a sign of hardware problems, driver conflict, etc. Do a Safe Boot and see if you can narrow it down.
