I got a big ass TV
« on: Monday, March 07, 2011, 11:54:54 AM »
Got my refund and decided to save half and spend half. So I got me a nice LG 50 inch LCD TV. And I am now playing through Mass Effect 2 on it...yet again! It's a fairly different experience on a large TV, things look so good, and I notice more and more little details. Watching movies is pretty awesome too. I'm waiting for my Walking Dead Blu-ray to get here tomorrow, and I'm gonna go to town.

Totally worth the money!

Congrats bro! Seeing things in a large scale definitely have their appeal. Try an immersive first-person shooter like Modern Warfare or Black Ops on it!

Agreed.  Did you get a surround sound system as well?  Games nowadays have great audio and visual experiences.

Awesome dude, nice buy.  I was in the same boat in September when I got my 46" Sony LCD which was a huge upgrade from my 26" RCA LCD.

These big sets make a huge difference.  40"-50" seems to be the sweet spot depending on the size of the room.  I remember seeing a 60" several years back on sale for twenty thousand dollars and being blown away.  It's funny to see how much the prices have come down.  I also saw the 105" Panasonic for sale in Dubai.  The store had it displayed next to a sixty inch screen and just completely dwarfed it.  Just the wooden enclosure for it cost over twelve grand.

Good Lord, those enormous TV's are in every major appliance/electronics stores. I think they average $30,000!

Size is not the only factor, of course. I respect Panasonic and LG as but so far I've been a big fan of Samsung and Sony screens.

I used to be real partial to the Sharp Aquos line. I bought one when they first came out, but it was only 26 inch. It's in the bedroom now, and looks and works just as well as the day I bought it back in 05-06. I was also a huge fan of Samsung.

But since, I've purchased some LG stuff, and it's all extremely good quality. My phone, computer monitor and TV are all LG.  All of them are flawless thus far.
