The Humble Store

Very interesting.

It seems the Humble Bundle guys are up to something new. So lots of indie games are sold using services like Fastspring that handle the payment processing and give you a link to download. One problem with those systems is it seems the links eventually expire. Recently a few indie games, mostly ones that have been in Humble Bundles and Wolfires own upcoming Overgrowth are available for purchase via the Humble Store. Its just like buying a bundle, you give an email addy and some paypall info and you're sent a link. Apparently the links don't expire, which is a plus.

So they snooped around and asked some questions and it appears that this payment method is going to open up to all indie devs to use and there might even be a Humble Store site that you can browse and shop from, which would be pretty cool. There is no tie in with services like Steam or Desura unless the developer chooses. It seems that there might be a DRM-free requirement and even a Mac/Linux option requirement like the bundles have. For example the Trine 2 web site says "Linux and DRM free versions will be added to Humble Store purchases in 2012."

Will be very interesting to see where this leads.
