iPhone 5 news coverage
« on: Wednesday, September 12, 2012, 04:40:21 AM »
Anyone else think it's crazy regarding all the news coverage about the iPhone 5?  The Technology section of my Flipboard app had what I thought was a story about the iPhone 5 launch, but really it was a whole section devoted entirely to the iPhone 5 launch with tons of various news articles.

Honestly, I think Apple must pay the tech blogs to write about them.  There was one just the other day on Ars Technica that was called "What the next iPhone should look like: share your thoughts" and then a follow-up article "The next iPhone: what Ars readers want from Apple" that was just regurgitated from the comments of the former.  That isn't journalism.  That's garbage, click-bait, paid-for-advertising/pseudo-journalism... whatever you want to call it.

We all know that the iPhone 5 is going to be huge.  Bigger than the iPhone 4S, I imagine.  But it's crazy how comprehensive the coverage is in the press.

Internet news I can see, what amazes me is that Apple product launches/updates get TV news coverage. No one else gets that. I didn't see shit about the refreshed Kindle line, but I know I'll hear at least 8 stories on whatever the fuck Apple shows today.

I just went on The Verge and the entire top half of the website is Apple/iPhone stuff. I had to scroll down to see anything not related to Apple.

Fair enough, the new iPhone may be newsworthy but should it dominate all tech sites?!

UPDATE:
It's official, here's the iPhone 5.

Well, to be fair, an iPhone announcement is pretty much the biggest thing that happens all year for tech bloggers.

Yea I think an iPhone 5 launch is pretty massive. I don't doubt that some of these tech bloggers are given incentives to write about this but it is like the biggest thing for tech people.

Popular religions are well funded, Scott.  And many of the faithful give their time willingly.   :P

I had avoided this thread, thinking it was meant to be substantive on Apple tech.  Then I saw who started it.  Haha!

Typical idiot iSheep, drooling over the "bigger", "thinner", "lighter", "faster" iPhone 4S thinking it is an iPhone 5.  Some of them are even holding an iPhone 4S in their other hand and saying "Oh yeah it's definitely faster!"

This morning on the Today show they had a short piece about the hype.  They said people were waiting in line for 7 days in Manhattan while other people were paid $1500 for waiting in line for someone else.

I guess it's something I will never understand.  I clearly am opposite-brained from these people.

And by that, scott, you mean... you have a brain? I'm pretty sure these people don't.

Also, Onion ftw.

Honestly, what is the real fucking difference between the new one and the old one? Virtually nothing tangible. Certainly nothing worth money, and absolutely nothing worth time. These things should be equipped with explosive devices that charge on activation of the product. Clean out the gene pool a little.
