This kind of thing is the main problem I have with competition in general. Most human beings turn into unbearable assholes when they get competitive, whether they're winning or losing. If they're not bitching incessantly about how unfair it is that they lost, they're bragging about how amazing they are because they won. I've known people that like competition so much that they turn cooperative games into competitions and find anything they can to brag about. I'm more of the type to congratulate the winner, or console the loser. I hate the awkward feeling of knowing the other person just lost, and if I brag I make them feel worse.

Not a fan of competitive multiplayer either. It's alright on occasion but I prefer cooperative gameplay far more. Even with competitive or adversarial gameplay I prefer team-oriented games.

This actually reminds of me sports, the same kind of douchebag people exist there as well. When we would play basketball or football (soccer) it doesn't matter what team they're on they're total dicks to the opposition as well as their own teammates. Put these douchebags in an office setting and the same behaviour patterns manifest in truly malicious ways. They are naturally drawn to competitive activities or they will turn anything into one.

Yeah the comment at the end of the video was really stupid. So if money is on the line it's ok to act like an idiot? This has nothing to do with them being teens. It's just rage that has little to do with the game. I don't buy the whole "it helps the team to be pumped up" argument.  

The whole competition seems to encourage these kinds of outbursts: they play in the same room, coaches, staff, fans stand right behind them and the whole thing is broadcast. I'm sure part of the popularity of these shows is due to the frequent blow-outs between the players.

Having said that, I'd love to see the rage when they actually play against PC players.

I know people that while doing a 5 man cooperative dungeon in World of Warcraft, (COOPERATIVE!), will brag non stop about how their damage output is so high and mine is so low. It messes up the experience for everyone involved. there are any number of reasons my damage could be low, but this guy knows me well enough to know that I'm not building my character wrong or don't know what I'm doing. It could just be that we're doing AOE pulls and my build isn't good for that. That doesn't stop him from bragging though.

I won a Madden tournament in the city I was living in a few years ago.  I was respectful to everyone I defeated.  This says less about competitive gaming and more about the people participating in said gaming.

That's the thing.  Also, I don't think the guy making the video has ever really played many sports.  Specifically, when he mentioned rugby he was waaay off point.  Sure, things get heated in a scrum and there's yelling/punching, whatever but you're also getting your legs raked by cleats and your ears possibly boxed. What doesn't happen, however, is anything after the scrum breaks.  Transport the behavior of these "e-athletes" to any REAL sport, especially at that age, and you'd have a lot of ejections, suspensions, and possible eye gouging.

The weird thing here isn't necessarily the behavior of the CoD players, but the fact that's it's ignored (almost encouraged) by the "league" and "officials".
