Meh.  I was one of the biggest fans of the first, particularly because Carroll is a hobby of mine (I'm a member of the LCSNA), but my guess is they'll totally fuck it up and ruin what made the first one special.  My hopes aren't high.  It was a miracle they pulled the first one off so well, I can't see it happening twice.

Awesome, but I can't help but feel this is American McGee trying to salvage his career in light of his recent flops.

Still I hope it's awesome and totally whimsical!

Yea that is what I was thinking. It is like Stallone doing Rambo and Rocky again.

Geez....I don't even have the original American McGee Alice...

So, does Steam or GOG have that yet or what?

Weird.  Until I see gameplay, I'm not holding my breath.

All this game has to do is offer more of what the first Alice game had. It doesn't need much new or inventive, just more, and I'll want it. So I guess it won't take much for it to please me and surpass my expectations. Alice was one of those games I had trouble putting down. I played the living shit out of the demo and grabbed the full version as soon as I could.

The best thing a Return to Alice could do for me is hopefully get EA to re-release The original American McGee's Alice on disc or something.

Or, they should just put it on digital distribution for GOG and Impulse.

Oh man.  The first game was great and I was sad about Oz not going anywhere, but really....everything that guy has touched lately has fucking sucked.

But he really hasn't done a whole hell of a lot since then.  It's been what, 2 games?  Oz didn't happen, and the other 2 games turned out to be lousy.  And to be fair, Grimm was pretty interesting from a conceptual and audiovisual standpoint, there was just no real game behind it.

I don't want to say I have tons of faith in the guy at this point, but I'm still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt if he can take a hard look at where his current projects have gotten him and try to stop thinking outside the box in weird ways.

That is a great and disturbing teaser.

I'm looking forward to it but I think what's really channeling that is my nostalgia for the original game.

I never got around to giving the original a good shot.  I got it during a time I was a heavy sailor of the high seas (*wink*) and had a lot of things to play.  When I fired up Alice, I was not impressed with the polygon models at all and it sort of turned me off in a way that I wasn't super-eager to get into it.  I always meant to go back and give it another shot because I knew that it wasn't fair to judge a couple year old game that way, but I just never did.

I'll keep my eyes open for this one.

Bumping this old ass topic and renaming it for the final title for the game. Here's some gameplay footage from GDC 2011:

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/115/1153659p1.html

Looks a lot like the first (which is a good thing). It looks great visually, the gameplay sort of looks like a mixed bag, but something I could really love. The invisible platforms bit in the first video seems tedious, but the rest looks decent. I was surprised to see melee combat, as I don't remember the first game having any. There also seems to be a target lock system of some sort.

I'm liking what I see so far. I loved the first one and can't wait for this.

Why don't any digital download stores - such as EA Download Store, Steam, GOG, Gamersgate, etc - sell American McGee's Alice original game?  :o

I still want to get my grubby PC gaming hands on the original!
Lord knows how I missed it, first time around...especially when I know LONG AGO I have seen it dirt-cheap.

It'd be a perfect time to release this digitally - w/ the sequel right around the corner and all.
EA could really cash in on this opportunity.

I hope the sequel turns out good and all.

I hadn't realized Alice wasn't available digitally. I still have my physical copy lying around somewhere. I may have to look for it and install it again.

It's still a good looking game.

New one looks like it could be cool.  Gameplay seems very improved, and I have high hopes for the art design.  Hope it turns out well, but the teaser trailer is a little much.

Alice: Madness Returns PC -> How to unlock the 30 FPS cap.

Quote
And now it’s time for McGee’s latest game, Alice: Madness Returns. Although the game is capped at 30fps, there is an easy way to remove it. All you have to do is to find and edit the “AliceEngine.ini” file which is located inside ‘My Documents/ My Games/ Alice Madness Returns/ AliceGame/ Config’. When you find it, open it and make the following changes:

    MaxSmoothedFrameRate=31
    change it to

    MaxSmoothedFrameRate=60

    if you have 120Hz monitors, change it to
    MaxSmoothedFrameRate=120

EDIT:
More info on how and what to tweak for Alice: MR PC.
The game's very PhysX-driven, so you're gonna have to play w/ the PhysX settings in the INI's as well, to try and alleviate the pepper-grinder causing framerate issues.

Yeah, exactly.  PhysX makes all the difference in this game.  If you don't have a Nvidia card capable of running it, turn it all the way down.

Here's how lazy Spice Horse is/was.
The in-game graphics menus only allow you to turn it down to LOW.

You'd have to turn off all the PhysX settings in the INI files, if you were to totally turn it off.

From my understanding of it, "low" is the equivalent of "off" in most other games.  When I looked into it as I originally wanted to play the game on my notebook, it seemed that the general consensus was that turning it low turned off all the extra physX effects, leaving only the base physics and particle effects.   The developers titled this "low" because it still used the physX language (or whatever) to display these effects, rather than an alternative physics engine.  Conversely, games like the Arkham games do the same thing, but title the setting to "off" because it's turning all the extra enhancements off, yet it's still running in CUDA or on your CPU depending on which card/driver setting you're using.

I remember reading that setting the physX value to zero in the .ini had the same result as the default for low, which was 8 or something like that. I have no idea what that actually really means though.

Either way, the game seems a tad bit drawn out.

Twas quite amusing, twas.

I liked it, definitely more than the first one, even though the first one has a special place in my memory.

You know what?  The pacing in this game is just terrible.  I ended up quitting right before the end (I think?) because it's frustrating how long the levels just drag on for.  I mean, gameplay length is great and some of the platforming and puzzles in this game were good, but it just seemed like you'd get sick of an environment or level and then have over another hour to go in it.
