Amnesia Fortnight 2014
« on: Thursday, February 06, 2014, 02:45:52 PM »
Double Fine is at it again. For the next 2 weeks they are going to forget their current projects and try make something news and experimental! If you buy in before Monday you get to watch all the various game pitches and can vote for your top 3. Overall winners will be worked on for the rest of the two week time, with daily videos and updates on development from the different teams. If you beat the average you can vote for the one Pendleton Ward (Adventure Time) will be a part of.

Some pretty cool sounding pitches. It's going to be hard to narrow down the field.

Also the Humble Weekly sale is Double Fine games. Stacking, Psychonauts, Costume Quest, Brutal Legend, and if you spend a bit more you get Spacebase DF-9 (which is the full version of one of the last Amnesia Fortnight demos)

My votes currently sit on Dear Leader, Derelict, and Timagochi. If I had a 4th vote then it would probably go to Breach. I chose my 3 because not only do I think they are good ideas but they are also something that could be made reasonably well in a 2 week period.

But man, it was tough to narrow down.

Votes are in and the field has narrowed to the top 10 which you can vote on again to determine the overall winners. The current selection is: Breach, Dear Leader, Derelict, Eras of Adventure, Ether, Extra-Terrarium, Mnenomic, Project Xing, Steed, What Could Go Wrong.

Two of my picks made it through! Now I think my third vote will go to Breach or What Could Go Wrong. Maybe Steed?

Looks like the prototype picks are Dear Leader, Mnenomic, and Steed. I'm a little bummed Derelict didn't make it, but happy about Dear Leader.

Even if you didn't buy in, you can watch the live dev streams on Twitch or you can check out the daily recaps on Youtube.

Day 0 video isn't as interesting because it is mostly about the setup and the voting and such. Day 1 and 2 are both getting into the actual development of each game and if you have any interest in game dev they are just great to watch. Each team looks like they are going to have all different development paths. Dear Leader looks like its got a pretty solid path, Steed is a bit more "open" to what it might eventually be and will have some interesting challenges getting the horse controls right, Mnenomic is going to be really interesting to see what it becomes because even the lead doesn't have a solid idea, or he does but doesnt know how to communicate it.

I won't be posting every video so just watch the Double Fine youtube channel to check em out. I know I will be. Great stuff.

If you check out the Double Fine youtube channel they have all the way up to day 10 now for videos, and more to come it seems. The prototypes are now available to download! Need to get them downloaded and check them out.
