Well, I bought my 12-year-old girl a laptop.  That was 3 years ago.  I don't think she could do without it now.  I paid to fix a frozen fan this past Summer.  She's very smart, though, and was pretty much up to speed as a user even then.

My question here would be what proof does this guy have?  Anyone can backdate a PC and load up old porn.  Did Apple admit to the oversight?  I can see it being a big deal with authoritarian, puri-tyrannical morons, not us (hopefully).

I'd be pretty damned pissed about that, and I can't believe anyone would say this guy doesn't have a right to be outraged.  While I probably wouldn't be buying my kid a laptop either, I don't think there's anything to indicate that she turned it on without him there.  He just probably immediately noticed there was porno on it and got ticked off.  I mean, that's a pretty bad oversight.

Again, though, I do wonder whether or not what Cobra said might have something to do with it and he rigged it in order to cause a stink.  Nonetheless, if it's true, I think he has every right to be pissed off.  You guys often forget that there are people out there who see porn as wrong, and not all of them are puritanical weirdos, even.  I'd say a person would have a right to be upset about that.

I remember when I got the laptop, I spent days making sure it was set up the way I wanted it, before my girl even saw it.  I can't see handing an 11 or 12-year-old a computer of any kind without looking at it first.  I can handle porn being left behind by a previous owner, although I'd make a stink about it too, if I got it from an official source like Apple.

Sex?  No.  What's evil is the adult reaction to the sexuality of minors.  By allowing your child to get over the pathetic phobias against the very subject of sex in the USA too early, you are risking them or you becoming the objects of witch hunts and ridicule.  It's the parents who should know how to deal with the issue and guide their children, but let's be fair.  They too were brought up in ignorance and fear about the subject.  They too must function in a puritanical society.

Giving your 11-year-old a PC full of porn may even land you in jail, or more easily, see you lose your children to some state agency.  Is that evil enough for you?

Pornography is very inappropriate for children, anywhere.  Having re-read what I posted, I wanted to make sure to say that.  The only question I tried to answer in some absolute way was whether sex itself is evil.  (I don't think so.)

If this really happened, it's a problem for Apple, even in the UK.  It would have been a bigger one here, I'm pretty sure.
