Americas Army finally catches up with the rest of the pack
« on: Thursday, December 21, 2006, 11:06:10 AM »
Todays release will include a map editor. Shock and Awe.

From what I've read it sounds like anyone can make maps now, but you cant play them on official servers or servers where you gain rank/honor/whatever. You can submit your map to some web site they are setting up where you'll get feedback and junk. If your map is good enough, it will become an official map.

Watch the ranked servers have zero players and the custom map servers take off.

Man, I haven't played that game in years! It was kinda cool when I first started, but it got quickly boring, especially that at the time I could barely ever connect to a decent server.

I should give it a shot again.

Does anyone still play it?  It never appealed to me at all.

At one point I messed with it. It was ok for the most part. Then a big update I lost my credit for training which I never got fixed. I then redid some of the training so I could play again. Another large update they didn't release a patch for, so it was full download only. At over 1GB, and the fact I wasn't that into it, I just gave up on the game.

Today the full install is 2.5GB download.

I played it when it first came out... thought it was retarded because you had to pass 'training' before you could do anything else.

It was an okay game.  Not that fun though.

I wasn't impressed with what it had to offer back when I played.  I did try one of the earliest releases though, and I do remember seeing an article or two later on about how much the game had improved.  I never bothered to give it another look though.
