Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Mans Chest
« on: Tuesday, December 12, 2006, 12:02:12 AM »
God I love these movies. I just keep rewatching them.

The best lines was from those 2 formerly cursed pirates (You know, the dude with the fake eye and the other one).

Pirate 1: You know you can't read.
Pirate 2: It's the bible, you get credit for trying.

Gets me every time.

They're enjoyable movies.  Plus, Kiera Knightley :P

Though, I gotta say the second one is kind of disappointing in the way it ends like that and stuff.  I mean, we all know it was filmed back to back with part 3, but when you compare it to the first one, the second one is significantly weaker.  Still, fun characters and stuff.

Heh.  Julia and I were talking about it the other night and we discovered that while we enjoyed watching the 2nd film when we saw it, it kind of left a bad taste in our mouths.  Like the franchise just seemed cheaper and more lame after some time had gone by and we looked back.  I dunno' what it is.  Maybe we just need to see it again or something.  I liked the fact that it was pretty dark, but it just got a bit... weird at a few junctures.  I remember at one point saying to her, "I think we're now watching a cartoon".  All in all it was good, and we left happy, but I'm just not sure it did anything for the franchise as a whole.  Sorta' stole the magic of the first a little or something.  Again, maybe I just need to give it another watch.  I'm still looking forward to the third.

I rather enjoy the almost cartoon aspect of it all. Like Ron Gilbert said, its Monkey Island: The Movie. Davey Jones is simply brilliant character design, and watching the making of on how they did that is insane. I left the theater figuring they did some good makeup work for most of the closeups and then CG the beard and junk...nope, total CG 100%. Fuck Gollum, Jones is the best CGI character.

I don't know what it is. This whole mythical world they made and stuff. Cannibal Island, Jones and his whole background myth, World's End (where they will go in POTC3). Huh...thats it. I love the old myths, and getting to see them realized inside a world where they exist it just awesome.

God I disliked both movies. I was going to say hate, but it is more because of how they were received and the films aren't that bad. But they are pretty bad.

Liked both the original and this sequel.
Preferred the original.

They are entertaining, fun popcorn movies to watch.

I prefered the original to the sequel.... I guess I just couldn't help but feel cheapened by the 2nd because there just wasn't a satisfying resolution, but I did enjoy the over the top action.  I think it fits just fine.  Also... Kiera Knightly  :-*

Am I the only guy who thinks Kiera Knightly is stupid?  I can't get into her at all.  Scarlett Johansson > Knightly any day of the year, both in terms of acting talent and physical beauty.

Remember Que, British accent adds +9 Hotness.

Though choosing between Knightly and Johansson would probably make my brain explode.

I found Knightly to be smokin' in the POTC movies, but from other stuff she comes off as a human skeleton.

Yay I find a partner.

I think she is fairly ordinary. Her figure is like that of a child's, and her face is kinda cute. But I think she is a competent actress, however the movies just sucked.

I loved both of the POTC movies. It's just over-the-top action with a cohesive plot, and no huge flaws. As long as you don't approach it as a serious move it's great.

My fav line from the 2nd:

I loved the first one and enjoyed the 2nd one. I'm like Q on this one. I wanted to love it, but it just dragged on and seemed to be less *compact* as a movie (partly because it was filmed back to back with the 3rd). Like Idol, I do enjoy the old school myths and the overall entertainment of the movies.

Oh and Scarlett Johansson > Knightly, because Scarlett has biggger lady parts....

On the flip side you are less likely to get an STD from Knightley.

Remember Que, British accent adds +9 Hotness.

I can vouch for that, provided it's the high-class British accent.  Cockney stuff does nothing for me.  There's this lady bartender in Huntington who is both gorgeous and very British-sounding.  She's nice to me too.   :-*

I saw a bootleg of this back when it was in the theater.  Quality was so-so.  And I was bored more often than I expected.  I do want to rent the DVD sometime, and see if it makes a better impression.

You know, British accents really do next to nothing for me.  Few accents do.

I'm a fan of many accents, but for some reason I detest the Female Australian accent.

I watched the Curse of the Black Pearl last night, then today I was just at walmart and made the impulse buy on Dead Man's Chest, along with Brick.

So I watched it last night. I liked it a good bit, as the movie progressed, the more crazier and entertaining it got. Though I wish I knew that both sequels were made back to back beforehand as that would have helped deal with the ending. Still, I wouldn't mind if they could have made some sort of closure to it.

Well the finale is due out fairly soon.  It comes out at the end of May.  But I agree, the ending sucked for Dead Man's Chest.

The ending didn't bother me.  It was an all right movie, I just got kind of annoyed that by the end of it we were more or less watching a cartoon.  I was a little unhappy about that.  They were trying too hard.
