I put in a ton of time into this over the weekend... it's such a great game. It's built entirely for obsessive hardcore weirdos, but instead of that being a turnoff for me like it normally would with an RPG, everything is so quirky and oddball and different that it just gets more and more interesting the more you discover.
I sort of knew all this already, of course, but I just never got very far with it on PS2 because I didn't feel I could invest the time. But being able to just play it wherever, that helps so much because it makes it so much more feasible to get as obsessive with it as it begs you to. You can just get through the story and have fun well enough without being too crazy about it, but there's so much extracurricular stuff the game just seems like it's begging you to ditch responsibility and waste a little more time.
