What's your take on this?
« on: Thursday, February 15, 2007, 01:51:10 PM »
Whenever I'm in the U.S. I love to watch Fox News.  Why?  Because it's a fucking gong show.  There's people yelling at each other, screaming points in debates, and monkeys running around everywhere.  It's something we just don't get here.  It's like the 'Police Academy' of the media.  It's very entertaining if you don't see it often, you just have to make sure you don't get sucked in...because I think that's where their actual demographic comes from....people who thought it was funny, and then saw that one clip that brainwashes people so they tune in constantly.

Anyways, case in point:

between Fox News and re-runs of The Hannah Montana show, I think I'd rather watch Hannah Montana. Hell, I'd rather watch Hannah Montana then any of the news channels.

Disclaimer: I do not actually watch The Hannah Montana show.
Suck it, Pugnate.

It's like the Ringling brothers were sitting there one day and trying to figure out how to pay off all the debt they've incurred.  Things were looking bleak in these days of rotten.com and somethingawful, but then the bearded lady piped up....'well, we could run a news channel'.

It used to be that the only time I watched Fox was on the Daily Show, and I remember thinking that there's no way the network could be that absurd 24/7, they just picked certain clips. But it really is sensational crap. Funny sensational crap.

Trust me, Fox News is a completely different animal from every other news network or program I've come across.

Just wait until some fat whore kills herself in a hotel room and the "news" refuses to discuss anything else.  Fox News may be odd, but the whole ball of wax is a fucking joke.

Don't get me wrong- they are all horrible. Fox just seems to go above and beyond to be even more horrible.

It looked like a light ribbing was used to introduce the topic of the segment: what do people generally not know about this guy?  They don't know that he smokes (bad habit, but who cares, haha . . .) and to get more serious, they don't know that he has a very liberal voting record (according to Fox--I don't know personally what his voting record is).  It looked like a fairly innocuous segment.  Fox leans right, and in my view, compensates in a small way for all the left-leaning news organizations.  It doesn't surprise me that they would want to expose Obama's alleged liberal record (if he indeed has one--as I said, I don't know, though I doubt Fox would commit the blunder of an intentional bare-faced lie).

To answer their question, as long as he doesn't die or become incapacitated during office as a result of his habit, it would make absolutely no difference to me whether he smokes in private.

The problem with Disney teenager shows are twofold: Disney is one of the most idiotic groups of individuals to ever form up and become a group of idiots, and teenagers of our era are actually more worthless than diseased rat droppings.

Why do you come to the U.S.?  Stay in Canada.  Or at least take Tim Horton's back with you next time you go back home.  I was in Canada once and I swear it was worse than Walgreen's.  I felt surprised every time I came to an intersection and didn't see a Tim Horton's.

j/k man.

On the topic.  I've defended Fox News in the past as being a conservative news station to help balance out all the liberal media.  It is conservative.  But it's also pretty damn sensationalized and one-sided, unlike their "Fair and Balance" mantra would have you believe.  I haven't watched it in quite some time.  Or CNN or MSNBC for that matter.

Because I like bitching.  And why do you assume I haven't killed any hookers, or that doing so would get me over the uselessness of the Disney teenage empire?

Obviously gpw missed the dead hooker thread. Though I must say, the pics were a little over the top.

Back on topic: Rupert Murdoch actually said he created the network in order to balance out all the other networks- conservative to counter the liberal. The thing is, none of the other networks are nearly as liberal as Fox is conservative. I guess 4 semi-liberal networks and 1 ultra-conservative network balance out.

I'd disagree with that.  I think the others are completely liberal.  They just lie and try to appear unbiased, whereas Fox just screams at the top of its lungs that it's conservative.  Which, oddly enough, in a lot of ways it kind of isn't.

Fox News is really crazy and I disagree with most of their views. I find CNN, BBC far more agreeable. Even Sky News which is owned by Rupert Murdoch as well is more agreeable.

Fox News is very informal and there is often a lot of mini conflicts whenever guests are introduced. Having said that, I'd rather watch Fox News any time of the day haha. It is just more fun. At times I am working and Fox News is on my TV for eight hours a day.

It is funny though. All forms of entertainment are left oriented. I guess it is just easier to be funnier if your theme isn't conservative. Therefore it is ironic that of all the news channels, the only one that is very casual and can make news entertaining is the only right wing news show on air! I find that hilarious.

Also I think despite the extreme views on Fox News, I realize that it is an important channel. Before Fox News I don't think the conservatives really had a voice, and after watching Fox News so often I realize I share many of the views.

Then again I also want to slice people with chainsaws, when they seem to define their views by the parties they vote for. It should be the other way around. You naturally have world views as you grow as a person and then if you fall on either side of the spectrum you are defined as such.

It is a problem I see a lot in Americans, and I don't mean any disrespect.

I see people either hardcore on the left or the right, and behave that rigid way purely because of the loyalty to their parties. That's insane. I haven't seen people from any other part of the world do that to such an extent as Americans.

I really don't understand why that is. Why can't people have views without having them defined by what party they vote for? And why is that way of thinking so abundant in America?

Again I don't mean any offense, but it is something I noticed a lot. When I was in university a lot of Canadian students would say the same thing. Then again most Canadians really don't have opinions and just want to live their life haha. Just kidding.

But I am not saying this is a horrible thing. Here in Pakistan, it is a lot based on race, origin, region and religion. That is far worse.

In a lot of the middle east, admittedly the differences are mostly on religion.

These differences are far worse and ends up in violence.

But Europeans are far more easy going about their views. They have views based on their experiences and not because they vote for a particular party. Nor are they so rigid.

In America it is always a never ending battle between Republicans and Democrats, where you are on one side of the fence or the other, hardly ever in the middle. And people are just as rigid as they are those in this part of world, which is what surprises me.

I think it's sad that we are essentially forced into voting either Democrat or Republican. I don't consider myself either, but I will vote Democrat simply because the way that Republicans have handled things in the past seven years in the White House borders on idiotic.

To make things more interesting I propose the introduction of two new parties! Their names shall be The Empire and The Old Republic.

How about The Best Political Party EVER. I'd vote for any candidate in that party.
