Bought a house
« on: Sunday, April 22, 2007, 07:48:45 PM »
Sort of.  Actually I just didn't.  Jennie did.  My credit is too horribly wrecked to have been part of the mortgage.

But yeah, today we agreed on a seller's offer and the realtors should be cementing that right about now.

We got a nice little four bedroom on the West Side of Cincinnati, near all my friends and family.  Not close to work though, which sucks but it was either be close to work or our friends.  It needs some work, but nothing major.  The kitchen needs to be updated and a dishwasher added and some ancient range vent removed. As a lower priority, the blue marble-like sink in the bathroom has to go.

I have to say house-hunting was one of the most horrible things ever.  I imagine it's a lot easier if you have a lot more money to work with, but in our price range it was quite difficult to find anything that even remotely satiated our needs and desires.  There were several weekends which felt like utter and complete wastes of our lives and we were close to giving up.  I mean it's horrible, you have all these houses for sale and you basically filter out the ones you have no interest in from the get-go.  Then you arrange to see 6-10 houses on a day and these are supposed to be good candidates.  Then you go see them and hate them or you love the house but you have a redneck neighbor with an engine block sitting in the middle of the driveway under a rotting blue tarp or realize that it's right across the street from some horrendous business structure or something like that.

I mean it has been extremely stressful and depressing.  I'm so happy we finally found something both of us really liked.

There are no definite plans, but I've been mulling it over for quite some time.

Congrats. I went through a couple weekends like that looking for my current apartment. Looking for a house would probably be like that, times ten, so I feel for you.

So yeah, we need pictures when you get the chance. I'm especially interested in that blue sink.

There will definitely be some pictures.  In fact, I really need some advice on what to do with this vent.  I mean the thing is ancient and hideous.  I'd love to replace it with one of those behind-the-overhead-microwave ones but I've been Googling for an hour now and haven't even seen a single picture of a vent like the one in this house.

Congratulations! My sister just ended up buying a house last week, and she is a teacher so her price range is not high-end either. She was frustrated as well but it seems that it pays off in the end. Better to be frustrated now rather than later :)

But then we'll have too many admins.

... oh, come on, I'm just giving you shit.

Congrats, though, I'm glad that you guys managed to find something.  I know it's a huge relief to be worrying about all that and then to just have it over and done with.  Hope it treats you well.

Well we got a four bedroom because two bedrooms is too small.  Jennie already has a kid so if we ever have one (seems inevitable at this point) there wouldn't be room.

Also for one reason or another, we really didn't see many three bedroom houses in our range.

Even without extra people more bedrooms is good anyway.  Then you can just have one be a den or gameroom or library.  I love extra rooms.  They're like Christmas.

Exactly.  My 4-bedroom house had the spare room set up as an office.  2 desks with PCs, file cabinet, bookshelf, printer table, etc.  The living room and den were not cluttered with all such crap.

Good stuff. And just finding an apartment to rent is daunting as it is, so to actually take a place permanently must have been a nightmare.

Anyway extra rooms are awesome like everyone said. Also I had no idea your and Jenny's were that serious.

That just makes me smile. You'd be the first of us to have a child (after we all got together as a community, sorry Cobra), which is pretty cool. I've given up on Sirean having little Matts. He'd just make the little ones paint his figures while he would direct!

"I SAID BLUE.. BLUE! That's NOT BLUE! IT IS TURQUOISE!"

"But daddy... we are hungwee...."

Congrats!!

I just live out of my suitcase at the moment and for a while.

I agree with Que, extra rooms are always lovely.

I grew up in a big house.  We only used 2-3 rooms in the house so there were about 6 other extra rooms we could play in.  There was a huge garden too.  I spent lots of time in the garden.

Taken.
